JOHN MILTON PATTERSON

 

 

     John Milton Patterson, b June 28,1866 in Tennessee, d April 19, 1955 and buried in Big Hill Cemetery, Limestone County, Texas - was married first in Tennessee, and had one son born there, who came to Texas with his father after the death of his mother:

     Lambert Patterson - who lived in Limestone County, Texas - was buried in the Mart, Texas Cemetery. He lived in the Ben Hur Community, where he was a farmer and ran a "country store." Lambert Patterson married and had four children.

     On December 1890, John Milton Patterson was married second to Alice Ophelia Gaskin, b April 13, 1872, d December 1945 and buried in Big Hill Cemetery in Limestone County, Texas - a daughter of Oliver and Margaret Ellen (Davis) Gaskin, who married in 1867 in Caseyville, Mississippi. Margaret Ellen (Davis), a daughter of Zacheus ("Zias") and Martha Ann ("Patsy" Ratlifi) Davis, had married first on January 28, 1860 in Caseyville, Mississippi to Riden Thompson, who died in 1863 while in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War.

     Oliver Gaskin brought his family to Texas, and descendants reside in Texas, as well as in Falls County, Texas.

John Milton and Alice Ophelia (Gaskin) Patterson were the parents of seven children - including a pair of twin daughters:

     Mary M. Patterson, b January 1, 1894, d October 15,1931 and buried in Tidwell Cemetery, Limestone County, Texas.

     Carson Oliver Patterson, b January 1, 1894, d October 15, 1931 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Falls County, Texas - married Jewel N. Coleman, b July 23, 1896, d October 26, 1979 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin. They had three children: Alice Corine Patterson, who married Ned Delaney of Marlin, and resides in San Antonio, Texas; Iris Thelma Patterson, who is a school teacher in a community near Wharton, Texas, who married and has three children; and Glen Weldon Patterson, who graduated from Marlin High School, is a Petroleum Engineer, is married and has children, and resides in Houston, Texas. The Carson Oliver Patterson family lived in Limestone County, Texas near the Odds Community.

     Arthur DeeShields Patterson (later Arthur D. Patterson), b June 7, 1896, d 1979 and buried in the Big Hill Cemetery, Limestone County, Texas - married April 21, 1917 to Edna Roberts Pierce, who died June 29,1917; and married second on November 24,1921 to Lessie Enolia Ford and had Betty Jo Patterson, b November 24, 1922; Eula Mae Patterson, b August 28, 1924; Dee Alva Patterson, b July 2, 1929; and C. O. Patterson, b April 2 or 3, 1932 or 1933.

     Isla Lessie Patterson, b April 30, 1898, d September 12, 1959. No further information.

     Beulah Patterson - a twin, b August 16, 1902. No further information.

     Eula Patterson - a twin, b August 16, 1902, d July 27, 1903, and buried in Tidwell Cemetery, Limestone County, Texas.

     John Curtis Patterson, b July 25, 1905 - married February 27, 1942 in Rosebud, Falls County, Texas to Henrietta Robertson, b September 19, 1915 near Rosebud - a daughter of John Francis ("Frank") Robertson, b April 11, 1894, d December 19, 1960, and his first wife, Ethel Mae (Miles) Robertson, b December 25, 1893, d May 5, 1919. They had three children, and have been long-time residences of Marlin, Falls County, Texas.
