WILLIAM A. NOBLE
William A. Noble, b June 11, 1845, d April 7, 1936 and buried in Calvary
Cemetery - married Sidney
Elizabeth Jackson, b November 29, 1849, d January 10, 1902 - and both buried in
Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Falls County, Texas. The William A. Noble family
moved to Texas from Montgomery County, Alabama in 1875, and settled in the
Barclay-Lott area, subsequently moving to Marlin. They had two sons and five
daughters, but only one daughter has been identified by name:
Ella Noble, b 1868, d 1934 - married a Mr. Knox, and is buried by her
parents in Calvary Cemetery.
Thomas Walton Noble, b January 4, 1874 near Montgomery, Alabama, d June
1, .1961 in Tyler, Smith County, Texas in the of a daughter, and was buried
in Calvary Cemetery by his wife. In 1899, Thomas W. Noble married Maude Norwood,
b October 2,1880, d January 27, 1959 - daughter of John Patterson and Ida
(Phipps) Norwood of Marlin, Texas, and they were the parents of five children:
Alma L. Noble, b December 17,1902, d December 21,1904 and buried in Calvary
Cemetery; Charles A. Noble who married Louise French of Athens, Texas; Mabel
Edith Noble who married Seth P. Gilbert; Evelyn Noble who married Buven E.
Tucker; and Vivian Louise Noble who married Carlton R. Rook. After living for
six years on Live Oak Street in Marlin, Thomas Walton Noble moved his family to
their on Rock Dam Road, where they I continued to live until the death of
Maude (Norwood) Noble in 1959, when Thomas W. moved to Tyler to live with a
daughter until his death. Thomas Walton Noble engaged in farming and ranching
operations throughout his life. He loved horses, and could be seen daily riding
to the farms and to town. He was noted for his sound judgment, and was often
called upon by friends to advise them in regard to land purchases. Called 'Pete"
by most people, they were members of the First Methodist Church, where Mrs.
Noble taught in the Primary Department.
Jim T. Noble, b 1882 in Barclay, Falls County, Texas, d 1949 and buried
in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Texas - married Audie Pierson. They had one
daughter, Helen Noble, who taught school in the St. Paul Community, and later in
Mart, Texas. Jim and his family lived in Marlin, and he engaged in farming and
ranching operations with his brother, Thomas Walton Noble, until his death. His
daughter, Helen, moved with her mother to Denver, Colorado, and both
are now deceased.
William A. Noble served in the Confederate States Army during the Civil
War - was captured at Gravel Hill, Alabama in March 1865, and held a
prisoner-of- war until paroled in Meridian, Mississippi in May 1865.
