CLAUDE FRANKLIN MITCHELL

 

Claude Franklin Mitchell, b May 22, 1884 in Blue Ridge, Falls County, Texas, d September 21, 1950 in Marlin, Texas and buried in Calvary Cemetery ‑ was a son of William Henry and Margaret Lucinda (Cham­berlain) Mitchell. Claude attended Sam Houston State Normal Institute at Huntsville, Texas, after which he was a bookkeeper in Marlin, Texas for a time. He then worked in Perry, Texas as an executive in the Farmers State Bank, until it was voluntarily liquidated. Claude then moved to Mexia, Texas in a partnership operation of a bottling plant, where he remained until the early 1930's, when he returned to Falls County and resumed farming enterprises. For a time, Claude and his family shared the Mitchell with his mother, and then later lived there again until they purchased a "rock house" east of Marlin, which had been built by the Vann family.

On February 7, 1904 in Falls County, Claude married Julia Williams, b September 26, 1884 in Falls County, Texas, d August 10, 1968 and buried in Blue Ridge Cemetery ‑ a daughter of James W. and Aramantha (Millerman) Williams. They had two children: An Infant Son Mitchell who was stillborn in 1904; and Lois Estelle Mitchell, b January 17, 1906 who married Thomas W. Wagner.
