CHARLES OLIVER MITCHELL

 

Charles Oliver Mitchell, b December 26, 1852 in Robertson County, Texas just a few months before his parents settled in Falls County, d August 19, 1905 at his in Blue Ridge, Texas and buried in Blue Ridge Cemetery ‑ was the youngest child of Memnon A. and Martha (Harlan) Mitchell who came to Texas ‑State of Coahuila, Mexico, soon after their marriage in the Fall of 1834.

 

Charles Oliver Mitchell was an admirer of Sam Houston, and was called "Uncle Huse" by his nephews and nieces.

 

On September 12, 1875 in Falls County, Charles married Martha A. Blan, b June 20, 1855, d October 17, 1890 and buried in Blue Ridge Cemetery. Before her death, she joined Charles in selling the land he had inherited from his father to his brother, William Henry Mitchell. Charles and Martha had seven children before her death:

 

Henry Mitchell, b 1876 at Blue Ridge, Falls County, Texas ‑ was educated and became a certified teacher. No further information.

 

Walter Mitchell, b February 1878 at Blue Ridge married Vera Foley, a sister of Oscar Foley who was the first husband of his sister, Frances Martha Mitchell. Walter and Vera Mitchell had five children: Alton Mitchell, Delmer Mitchell, Beryl Mitchell, Reba Mitchell, and Erick Ray Mitchell. No further information.

 

Frances Martha Mitchell, b May 1880 at Blue Ridge, Falls County, Texas, was always called "Fannie." She married first to Oscar Foley, who died in 1913 and was buried in Blue Ridge Cemetery, and had four children: Walter Foley, Harvey Foley, Vera Foley, and Leland Foley. She married second to John William Gordon, and they were the parents of three children: Elizabeth Gordon, Phillip Gordon, and Frances Cordon. No further information on this family.

 

Ira J. V. Mitchell, b April 9, 1882 at Blue Ridge, Falls County, Texas, d 1952 and buried in Blue Ridge Cemetery ‑ married December 24, 1916 to LaVerne Williams, b November 2, 1896 at Mustang Prairie, d August 28, 1983 and buried in Blue Ridge Cemetery ‑ a daughter of Virgil M. and Martha ("Mattie" Barclay) Williams. Ira and LaVerne had ten children: Waymon Ray Mitchell, b April 24, 1916, d June 16, 1942 while in the U.S. Army during World War II ‑ taken prisoner in the South Pacific at Corregidor, died, and buried there; Joe Lowry Mitchell, b October 11, 1919, d October 1944 while in the U.S. Army ‑ killed in Germany and buried there in the American Cemetery ‑married Evelyn (maiden name unknown) in Wisconsin and had no children; William Howard Mitchell, b January 24, 1921 ‑ married Angeline Luball of Wisconsin ‑ had Carol, Cathy, Diane and Joan Leslie Mitchell and resides in Wisconsin; Charles Oliver Mitchell, b October 21, 1922 ‑ married Lillian (maiden name unknown), resides in New Jersey and works in a Plastics Factory there, and had Cindy and Martha Mitchell; John Henry Mitchell, b February 26, 1924 who married Annie Nell Mitchell ‑ daughter of Bert and Velma Mitchell of Kosse, Texas, and had Linda Sue, Brenda, Barbara Nell and Jerry Bond Mitchell; Lafayette Mitchell, b June 17, 1925 ‑ married Louise George and resides in Dumas, Texas having twins: Kenneth and Keith Mitchell, and Cindy Mitchell; Milton Wayne Mitchell, b June 17, 1925, d July 17, 1927; Martha Lucille Mitchell, b May 18, 1928 ‑ married first to Melvin Hall and had twins: Joyce and Janice Hall ‑ married second to Tom Amick and had Karen and Scott Amick; Mary Nell Mitchell, b May 20, 1930 who married Aubrey Sims, resides in Dumas, Texas and had Jody Wayne and Lisa Sims; J. D. Mitchell (initials only), b December 29, 1939 who married Barbara Lou Mitchell ‑ daughter of Bert and Velma Mitchell of Kosse, Texas and had Sheila, Susain, Russell, and Sally Mitchell.

 

            Charles Oliver Mitchell, Jr., b March 18, 1884, d March 30, 1953 ‑ married Ila Elizabeth Robertson, born February 23, 1892, d January 5, 1950 ‑ a daughter of Elonzo and Harriet (Van) Robertson and buried in Humble, Texas. They were the parents of Agnes Estelle Mitchell, b August 24, 1908 who married William Tell Sutter, and had no children; Dorothy Mitchell, b August 2, 1915 who married a Mr. Gann; Charles Oliver Mitchell III, b December 5, 1920; Evelyn Mitchell, b December 28, 1922 who married a Mr. Smith; Raymond Robertson Mitchell, b February 14, 1927; and Roberta Mitchell, b January 23, 1929 who married a Mr. Duck.

 

           Ulyses Mitchell, b March 17, 1886 at Blue Ridge, d January 28, 1897 and buried in Blue Ridge Cemetery in Falls County, Texas.

 

Eula Mitchell, b August 1888 at Blue Ridge, Texas ‑ married John Henry Owen, and had three children: a son, Thomas Daniel Owen who married Ann Pudgurney and resides in Reagan, Falls County, Texas, and has two daughters (names unknown).

 

After her husband's death, LaVerne moved to Dumas, Texas, where she lived with some of her children until her own death.

     Agnes Mitchell who married William Tell Sutter.  This was Mr. Sutter's seconded marriage.  He and Agnes had one son, Charles Sutter, born in Houston, Texas, April 19, 1927, who married June Aileen Littell (born April 14, 1928 in St. Louis) and had three children, Jan Sutter born October 8, 1950 in Houston, Texas, Jill Sutter born September 9, 1952, and Karl Sutter born May 29, 1964.  Jill Sutter married David L. Kremling on February 14, 1987 and she passed away 5-02-2008.  Karl passed away January 1, 1987.  I married Bruce E. Perry, May 29, 2004.

     I'm going to have to get the exact date of Agnes's death, I believe it is 1994 but I'm not positive.  William Tell Sutter was killed in a car accident in August of 1950.  Charles Sutter died July 5, 2004,  June died May 18, 2005.
