DAVID C. MILLER
David C. Miller, b May 4, 1834 in Spartanburg County,
South Carolina, d November 15, 1882 in Golinda, Falls County, Texas of "Black
Jaundice" and was buried "at the back step of his office, with no marker" ‑a son
of Samuel Miller (b ca 1781 in South Carolina, d May 4, 1846 in Spartanburg,
South Carolina) and his wife, Sarah ("Sally" Chamblin) Miller (b November 5,
1806 in South Carolina, d February 22, 1881‑ daughter of James ("Monday") and
Henrietta Miriam (Anderson) Chamblin.)
On January 24, 1866 in Palestine, Anderson County,
Texas, Dr. Miller married Mrs. Laura Elizabeth (Newkirk) Henry, b in 1839 in
Raleigh, Wake County, North Carolina, d December 10, 1886 in Waco, McLennan
County, Texas ‑ widow of Charles Thomas Henry, and daughter of Bryant Newkirk of
North Carolina. Dr. David and Mrs. Laura Elizabeth (Newkirk) Miller had six
children:
Laura Ermi, died in November 1882 in the "Black
Jaundice Plague"; Mary Jamison ("Jemmie"), b ca 1868 in Leon County, Texas,
attended the Waco Female College, d November 28, 1882 in the "Black Jaundice
Plague" and was buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Waco, McLennan County, Texas;
Joseph Sidney, b November 15, 1869 in Golinda, Falls County, Texas, d December
10, 1953 in Grandview, Johnson County, Texas, married Harriet Wozencraft Duty, b
December 19, 1877, d March 26, 1904; Quessie Eugenia, b January 5, 1872 in
Golinda, Falls County, Texas, married in November 1891 in Williamson, South
Carolina, married Young William Garrett; Elmer Dee, b January 29, 1874 in
Golinda, Falls County, Texas, d December 28, 1904 and buried in Guderian
Cemetery, Falls County, Texas, married Augusta Guderian; and David C., Jr., b ca
1878 in Golinda, Falls County, Texas, died after an appendectomy in Scranton,
Pennsylvania, married Bertha Deacon.
Dr. David C. Miller practiced medicine in Golinda
from about 1869 until his death in 1882.
