ANTON EDWIN (THOMAS) MICHALSKY

Anton Edwin Michalsky (called "Thomas" or "Tommy"), b May 10, 1926 in Fayetteville, Fayette County, Texas ‑ was one of nine children of Frank and Anna (Zapotek) Michalsky, who moved to Crosby, Texas about 1930. Thomas dropped out of school when in the tenth grade, and spent three years, eight months and ten days in the service of the U.S. Navy, during World War II.

On June 17, 1946, Thomas was married to Naomi L. Stubbs, b January 29, 1928 in Huffman, Harris County, Texas ‑ a daughter of Fieldin Schilden Stubbs (always called "Dock"), b October 5, 1891 in Cove, Chambers County, Texas, d January 1963, and his wife, Lavada (Yancey) Stubbs, b October 15, 1899 in Savannah, Georgia, d October 5, 1961. Naomi graduated from Crosby High School in May 1946, and married one month later.

Thomas began a career first by being a vegetable peddler ‑ buying fresh vegetables from the farmers and selling the fresh produce to personal customers he developed. After about eight and a half years, he and Naomi purchased a Drive‑In Grocery Store on November 11, 1945; and this business grew and expanded over a thirty and one‑half year period into a very successful supermarket. On January 28, 1970, Thomas and Naomi purchased the historic and beautiful Highlands Mansion in Marlin, Falls County, Texas ‑ originally built by B. C. Clark for his bride, Mrs. Sallie (Clarkson) Robinson Clark, and later owned by Frank Peacock, and then the James Gerden Barganier family, and finally, purchased by the Loeffler family of Houston, from whom the Michalskys bought it. The Loefflers began extensive restoration of Highlands, and the Michalskys have added additional furnishings appropriate to the period, and have landscaped all the grounds since 1970. Thomas and Naomi divide their time between Highlands Mansion, and their in Crosby, Texas. Highlands Mansion was opened for a special reception on February 22, 1986, when the Falls County Sesquicentennial Committee had the Costume Ball honoring the Four Presidents of The Republic of Texas. It is open throughout the year for tours.
