JOHN CARSON McKINLEY
John Carson McKinley, b December 6, 1860 at Mustang Prairie, Falls
County, Texas, d July 1, 1946 at Odds, Texas and buried in Mustang Prairie
Cemetery - was a son of James Franklin and Mary Frances Amelia (Paschall)
McKinley.
In 1881, John Carson McKinley married Junia Davis, b October 29, 1863, d
February 27, 1883 and buried in Mustang Prairie Cemetery - a daughter of
Reverend Jonathan J. and Nancy J. (Davidson) Davis. John Carson and Junia had
one son:
Oscar Lee McKinley, b ca 1882, died and buried in Kosse Cemetery,
Limestone County, Texas - married Emily Roxanna Waller and had Beatrice Junia
McKinley, Frances Norene McKinley who married Wood- row Simmons and had Martha
Carolyn Simmons, and Emily Kathleen Simmons who married Terry Stuart Williams
and had Brent Williams;' Waller Lee Mc- Kinley who married Ann Katherine Kling
and had Amy Lee McKinley who married Harold Anthony Moore; and Evelyn Ruth
McKinley who married Aubrey Taylor Garrett and had Aubrey Wayne Garrett, Ruth
Ann Garrett, and Michael Taylor Garrett.
John Carson McKinley was a member of the Baptist Church, and served as a
Deacon at Locust Grove Baptist Church at Odds. He was a School Trustee for the
Odds School, and an advocate of good roads.
On September 23, 1883 John Carson McKinley married second to Matilda
Caroline Miller, b November 23, 1863 at Rockdale, Milam County, Texas, d June
13,1915 and buried in Mustang Prairie Cemetery. Matilda Caroline was artistic,
encouraging her children in creative arts and music. She placed emphasis on
Christian faith, and in education. John and Matilda lived at Mustang Prairie
until 1889, when they moved to Odds, Texas, where they bought a farm. John
Carson and Matilda Carolina (Miller) McKinley had thirteen total children,
although only five lived to adulthood in addition to his first child:
Elmer Ernest McKinley, b 1884, d 1946 - was a dentist. He married in
August 1918 to Bernice Taylor.
Stella Iona, b January 23, 1886" d
February 21, 1889 and buried in Mustang Prairie Cemetery.
Beulah Leclaire McKinley, b 1887, d 1915 - was a school teacher. She
married December 25, 1911 to Lloyd Thomas Bunn.
Mary Amelia McKinley, b September 20, 1888, d March 17, 1966 - married
September 23, 1911 to Thomas Turner Criswell, b June 28, 1883, d February 20,
1970 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Texas.
Wesley Franklin McKinley, b May 30,1890, d August 15, 1963 and buried in
Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Texas - married June 14, 1916 at Stranger, Falls
County, Texas to Winnie Brothers, b October 18, 1896, d August 26, 1978.
Carrie Etna McKinley, b March 11, 1892, d April 16,1892 and buried in
Mustang Prairie Cemetery.
Lillie Mae McKinley, b January 28, 1893, d
October 21, 1974 - was an art teacher in Marlin Independent School District. She
never married.
Albert Jennings McKinley, b June 29,1894, d January 19, 1895 and buried
in Mustang Prairie Cemetery.
Marvin Leonard McKinley, b October 9, 1895, d December 28, 1898 and
buried in Mustang Prairie Cemetery.
Infant McKinley, b & d February 18, 1897, and buried in Mustang Prairie
Cemetery.
Clara Ruth McKinley, b 1898, d 1921- was a student at Baylor University
when she died. She had not married.
Lola Iris McKinley, b September 27, 1899, d October 26, 1900 and buried
in Mustang Prairie Cemetery.
Carl Carson McKinley, b August 7,1901, drowned on August 11, 1917 when
only sixteen years old, and a high school student. He was buried in Mustang
Prairie Cemetery.
