CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS McCOLLUM

    Christopher Columbus McCollum, b December 23, 1851 in Franklin County, Tennessee, d May 31, 1944 and buried in Bremond Cemetery, Robertson County, Texas -- was a son of Absalom McCollum, b ca 1810 in Tennessee.
    About 1875, Christopher Columbus came to Texas, where he worked in the Mumford Bottom, near Hearne.  In 1890, he bought land in Falls County, Texas, near Reagan Community, He was married first to a widow, Mrs. Dobbs, who had four daughters by her prior marriage; and they had one son, Claude McCollum, before his wife died.  Christopher Columbus McCollum was married second to Ida Baker, b September 26, 1880, d July 11, 1955 and buried in Bremond Cemetery -- a daughter of John Geter Baker, b 1842, d 1905, and his wife, Joanna (Kinard) Baker, b 1853, d 1934.  Joanna's parents were Reverend Charles Webb Kinard, b May 24, 1817, d August 20, 1875, and his wife, Elizabeth P. (Hill) Kinard, b April 8, 1824, d March 31, 1905 and both buried in Bremond Cemetery.  The Kinards came to Falls County from Arkansas.
    Christopher Columbus and Ida (Baker) McCollum had one daughter:
    Bethel McCollum, b December 1903, d 1969 and buried in Bremond Cemetery -- married Roland Vincent Clark, b 1891, d 1964 and buried in Bremond -- a son of Emmett Clark, b October 4, 1856 in Arkansas, d May 7, 1924, and hi wife, Annie (Fairbairn) Clark, b August 18, 1862, d March 9, 1954 and buried in Bremond Cemetery -- a daughter of Dr. James McK. and Sarah Catherine Fairbairn -- natives of South Carolina.  Dr. Fairbairn was a Dentist.  Roland V. and Bethel (McCollum) Clark were parents of Roland Vincent Clark, Jr.
    When the McCollum family moved to Falls County, Texas, the school near them had been known as McCaleb School.  The name was changed to McCollum Independent School District, and later was called Bologna.
