JOHN H. MATTHEWS

John H. Matthews, b March 25, 1885, d December 2, 1948 at Reagan, Falls County, Texas. He was married to Mary L. Peeples, b November 16, 1887, d March 10, 1980, and both buried in Waite Cemetery. Mary L. was called "Mamie", and was a daughter of Rufus Pinkney Peeples, b October 22, 1855, d October 19, 1920, and buried in Waite Cemetery. The couple lived in the Reagan Community all their married lives, where two of John's brothers had married Mamie's sisters.

John and Mamie had five children:

Luther P. Matthews, b May 11, 1907, d January 23, 1972 ‑ was a Corporal in Company G, First Armored Regiment, during World War II. He married Maxine Moore. He is an electrician and carpenter, and Maxine works for Dow Chemical Company. They have no issue.

Jane Matthews, b September 16, 1910, d September 5, 1949 and buried in Waite Cemetery ‑ married Ishmael E. Danford, b January 1, 1911, d April 25, 1977 and buried in Waite Cemetery. They had one surviving child: Shirley Danford, who married Eugene Radle, and they have Barry Radle and Byron Radle.

John Matthews, II (called "Dub") ‑ married Mary Ethel Hetherington ‑ a daughter of George Kyle and Fannie (Herridge) Hetherington. Dub works on highway construction. They have Sam Matthews and John Michael Matthews.

Mary Alyce Matthews, b 1919, d 1927 and buried in Waite Cemetery‑married A. G. Woodland, Jr., and had Sandra Woodland, b 1927, who married Michael Martin of Waco, Texas, and had Dawn Martin and Michelle Martin.

Herbert Matthews, b ca 1921, is a trucker. He married Sally (maiden surname unknown), and has Marian Kay Matthews.
