RUFUS ANDERSON MARLIN
Rufus Anderson Marlin, b January 9, 1824 in
Tennessee, d 1866 in Falls County, Texas ‑ was a son of John and Mary Celia
(Menefee) Marlin, natives of Tennessee, who came to Texas when it was still
Mexico in 1832, as early colonists of Sterling Clack Robertson.
In 1855, Rufus Anderson Marlin was married to Martha
L. Gentry, b June 10, 1838, d May 30, 1909 in Falls County, Texas and buried in
Covington Ceme tery near Reagan, Texas ‑ a daughter of Samuel and Emeline
(Payne) Gentry.
Rufus and Martha lived near the Reagan Community,
where he farmed and raised stock. They had four children:
Mary Elizabeth Marlin, b March 8, 1856 in Falls
County, d March 9, 1922 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Texas ‑
married December 14, 1875 in Falls County to Henry Thomas Rogers, b July 9, 1853
at Reagan, Falls County, Texas, d October 17, 1927 and buried in Calvary
Cemetery ‑ a son of Nathaniel Franklin and Tennessee (Huffman) Rogers. They had
four children.
Emeline E. Marlin (called "Emma"), b September 12,
1858 in Falls County, Texas, d November 23, 1928 and buried in Calvary Cemetery
in Marlin, Texas ‑married William Gaddah Tubb, b January 4, 1858, d June 24,
1929 and buried in Calvary Cemetery. They were the parents of three children.
John Henry Marlin, b 1861‑ moved away from Falls
County, Texas, to Uvalde, Texas. No further information.
Rufus Anderson Marlin, Jr., b 1865 ‑ moved away from
Falls County, Texas to Uvalde, Texas. No further information.
After Rufus Anderson Marlin died in 1866, his widow,
Martha L. (Gentry) Marlin was married second in Falls County on June 22, 1867 to
Thomas Jefferson Pruitt, b ca 1840 in Alabama, date of death unknown, but has a
tombstone in Covington Cemetery by his wife, with no dates ‑ a son of Levi and
Sarah Pruitt. Thomas Jefferson Pruitt served with the Confederate States Army
during the Civil War as a Private, Company A, 8th Cavalry, Harrison's Brigade,
Wharton's Division, Wheeler's Corps of the Tennessee Army ‑enlisting in Falls
County, Texas in September 1861. Thomas J. and Martha also had children.
