LEO FREDERICK ERNEST LOCKE
Leo Frederick Ernest Locke, b December 18, 1911 at Otto, Falls County,
Texas, d June 11, 1974 and buried in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery - was a son of
Ehrenfried Locke, b September 6, 1891 in Posum, Germany, d October 6, 1960 in
Falls County, and Emma Augusta Newman, b November 3,1891 at Brenham, d January
2, 1964 - a daughter of Fred Newman, who was a shoemaker in Germany before his
immigration to America.
Leo grew up on the family farm, where he learned the diversity of growing
crops and of raising chickens, hogs, and other farm produce.
On October 3, 1937, Leo was married to Pauline Pick, b April 4, 1919 in
Falls County - a daughter of Gustav Julius Pick, b August 4, 1893, d October 10,
1925 of typhoid fever, and Selma Maria Weiser, b April 16, 1884 in Fedor, Texas,
d December 18, 1955, who were married in February 1919.
Leo built some of the first broiler houses on his farm, and an article
was written about it in the Progressive Farmer. In addition to the
chickens, Leo raised hogs for both and commercial use, lambs, and cattle.
He planted cotton, corn, oats, and garden produce.
They were the parents of five children, but their only son died at the
age of one. The daughters attended school in Riesel, and later in Marlin High
School.
Grace Locke, b December 11, 1940, is unmarried and lives with her
mother.
Mildred Locke, b August 7, 1943 in a graduate of Marlin High School. She
married November 11, 1967 to Otto Matjevich and lives in New York, where they
have two children.
Doris Lee Locke, b
November 1, 1950 at Buie Hospital in Marlin - is a graduate of Marlin
High School and of Sam Houston
Uruversity. She married John; Paul Grusendorf, and has two children.
Linda Locke, b May 19, 1953, is a graduate of Marlin High School, and is
married to Kevin Swinnea - a son of Suldon and
Bonnie (Lauderdale) Swinnea. They live in Perry, Texas, and have Damon Scott
Swinnea, and Infant Swinnea.
