LAWSON LARRY LEWIS
Lawson
Larry Lewis, b March 28, 1856 in Mississippi, d May 16, 1938 in Lott - was a son
of John and Barbara Lewis, who lived near the site of the Battle of Shiloh,
where family members and friends were killed during the Civil War. John Lewis
was a gunsmith, who made bullets in his attic for the Confederate States Army.
After the war, Lawson and a friend walked to Texas. Lawson settled in Falls
County, where he worked on a farm.
On July
9, 1882, Lawson Larry Lewis married Sarah Elizabeth Dixon, b January 30, 1866 in
Panola County, Texas, d October 1, 1929 in Lott, Texas - a daughter of Henry and
Mary (Harris) Dixon, who lived at Golinda in Falls County. Lawson and Sarah
moved to Corsicana, then to Wharton, and then to Lorena, Texas - subsequently
returning to Falls County. They had seven children:
Daughty
Pearle Lewis, b June 19, 1889, d December 27, 1909 - married June 33, 1908 to
Jim Evans, and had one daughter.
Robert
Lee Lewis, b February 26, 1891, d July 17, 1946 - married December 22, 1912 to
Cornelia Ethel Davis, and had one daughter.
Willie
Mae Lewis, b January 1, 1894 at Marlin, d April 17, 1974 in Lott – married
Robert Jay Mosley, of Lott.
Henry
Otis Lewis (called “Jack”), b October 29, 1895 in Marlin, d October 11, 1960 –
married May 12, 1915 to Gladiola Collins, and had three children.
Delbert
Dewey Lewis, b September 29, 1898 in Marlin, d April 17, 1930 – married May 18,
1920 to Lolabelle Wilson, and had three children.
Alvin
Leo Lewis, b May 23, 1901 in Marlin, d February 28, 1962 – married Hattie Mae
Barnhill, and had five children.
Esther
Gertrude Lewis, b March 15, 1888, d July 18, 1888.

Delbert Dewey Lewis son of Lawson Larry Lewis died April 17, 1950, not 1930.
I have the letter from the doctor giving the time of death. He was
my Grandfather on my Mother's side.
