JOSEPH WARREN LAWLESS

 

 

     Joseph Warren Lawless, b September 25, 1842 in Troup County, Georgia, d January 6, 1906 and buried in Clover Hill Cemetery at Lott - was the seventh of eight children of John Lawless, b ca 1807, d ca 1845,

and his wife, Catherine, b ca 1812 - both natives of

Georgia. The children of John and Catherine Lawless were: John Lawless, Jr., b 1829; Nancy Lawless, b 1831; James Lawless, b 1834; Sylvester Lawless, b 1836; Lucius Lawless, b 1838; Henry Lawless, b 1840; Joseph Warren Lawless, b 1842; and Shada Lawless, b 1844. Since the family lived in Georgia - the state that suffered such terrible depredation during the Civil War, the Lawless young men would have served in the Confederate States Army.

     Joseph Warren Lawless came to Texas after the Civil War, and is said to have settled in the Bryan area, and had issue; but after his wife's death, he moved to the Lott area of Falls County, where he was married second in 1892 to Mrs. Mary Ann (Pierson) Atkins, b August 2, 1858 in Texas, d February 12, 1942 and buried in Clover Hill Cemetery at Lott - a daughter of William Montgomery and Matilda (Smith) Pierson, natives of the state of Coahuila (Texas) and Mississippi, respectively. Mary Ann's grandparents were John Goodloe Warren and Elizabeth (Montgomery) Pierson, who came to Texas before 1828; and was the widow of Napoleon Atkins, by whom she had a daughter, Susan Atkins, b October 1883, when she was married to Joseph Warren Lawless. Susan Atkins married John F. Priest - a son of Dr. James D. and Mary (Parks) Priest.

     Joseph Warren and Mary Ann (Pierson) Lawless were parents of three children:

Frank Lucius Lawless, b September 25, 1893, d July 1, 1950 at Lott, Texas - was a Private, 343 F.A. 90, during World War I. He married Minnie William- son, b January 6, 1899 - a daughter of Daniel Williamson, b 1857 in Alabama, d 1944 in Lott, who was a son of John and Margaret (Jay-McPherson) Williamson, and his wife, Margaret Elizabeth (Bouchillon) Williamson, b 1867, d 1956 at Lott - a daughter of Francis Sullivan and Jane Mahalia (Morrow) Bouchillon. Daniel was reared with his McPherson half-brothers and sisters. He and Margaret Elizabeth Bouchillon had married in Falls County, Texas. Frank and Minnie had a son, Ralph Warren Lawless, who married Peggy Bunn, and they have Frank and Larry Lawless, b in Marlin.

     Bessie Lawless, b 1894 in Lott, Texas-no further information.

     Billie Lawless, b July 11, 1896 in Lott, Texas, d July 12, 1962 in Lott - married June 13, 1930 to Homer Lee Chapman, b May 11, 1894, d May 10, 1973. Homer served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant, during World War I.
