JULIUS ADOLPHUS KIRKPATRICK

 

 

     Julius Adolphus Kirkpatrick, b 1853 near Fort Deposit, Lowndes County, Alabama, d 1948 in Falls County, Texas and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin - was a son of James Sydney and Hannah Aurelia (McCurdy) Kirkpatrick. Julius moved from Alabama to Falls County, Texas about 1879, and settled first on Tomlinson Hill - later lived a short time in Marlin, and then settled in the Reagan Community.

     Julius Adolphus Kirkpatrick was married to Lula Herlong, b 1861 in Greenville, Alabama, d 1933 in Falls County, Texas, and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin. All of their children, except the youngest, were born in the Tomlinson Hill area of Falls County, with the youngest being born in Reagan. Their seven children were:

     Anna Kirkpatrick, b February 10, 1882, d February 28, 1976 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin - married William U. Moore, b December 18, 1878, d November 28, 1956 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin. Their daughter, Mildred Moore, was b December 29, 1902, d July 27, 1916, and buried in Calvary Cemetery.

     Herman Hillary Kirkpatrick, b April 3, 1884, d March 25, 1970 and buried in Waite Cemetery at Reagan, Falls County, Texas. He married first to Georgia Crump, and had two sons: Robert Elon Kirkpatrick; and Wallace Kirkpatrick. He married second to Leah Lowry, and had a daughter, Anna Herman Kirkpatrick.

     Ingemiska Kirkpatrick (called "Gem") - married Newton W. Due, and moved to Longview, Texas. They had a son, Newton W. Due, Jr., who was born in 1925, and was killed during pilot training with the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II.

     Pauline Kirkpatrick, b 1888, d 1949 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin - married William G. Robbins, b 1883, d 1953 and buried in Calvary Cemetery. They had three daughters: Edwina Robbins, Anna Paul Robbins, and Lucia Robbins.

Horne Kirkpatrick, b August 23, 1890, d March 28, 1965 and buried in Waite Cemetery..in Reagan, Falls County, Texas - married India Burke, b October 31, 1894, died in Marlin, Texas in 1986 - a daughter of William Zebulon and Isabella C. (Carter) Burke. They lived in Reagan, Falls County, Texas, where they reared their three children.

     Thagard Keith Kirkpatrick (called T. K.), b July 15, 1900 - married July 23, 1936 to Mary Virginia Holloway, b April 9,1908 - a daughter of Joe Holloway, b 1858, d 1933, and his wife, Rosa (Somma) Holloway, b 1870, d 1953, and both buried in the Bremond Cemetery in Robertson County, Texas. T. K. and Mary had two children: Lt. Colonel Donovan Kirkpatrick, b December 16,1939, who married first on June 28,1963 to Beth Wasserman - a daughter of Frank and Vivian (Balhorn) Wasserman, of Barclay, Falls County, Texas, and had two daughters, Katherine Leah Kirkpatrick - a student at Texas A&M University, and Kara Kirkpatrick - who married in June 1986 in Marlin, Texas to John Michael Kenny - son of Harry and Margaret Ann ("Peggi" Gallaher) Kenny, of Marlin; and Karen Kirkpatrick, b August 29, 1944, who married Leslie Thomas Griffin, have no children, and reside in Houston, Texas.

     James Alvis Kirkpatrick, b 1903 at Reagan, Falls County, Texas, d 1948 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Texas - married Elizabeth Fullenwider, who resides in Marlin, Texas, and is an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Marlin. They had a daughter, Linda Kirkpatrick, who married and had a son and a daughter, and resides in Houston, Texas.

     The water well which was located on the site of the Julius Adolphus Kirkpatrick when the family resided in Tomlinson Hill, is the same that is now located on the Old Settlers Reunion property today.

     Julius and Lula (Herlong) Kirkpatrick were life-long members of the First Presbyterian Church, and he was an early Elder of that Church in Marlin, Texas, in which they maintained their membership.
