SAMUEL SUMNER JAMISON

     Samuel Sumner Jamison, b June 8, 1827 in Kentucky, d November 18, 1904 in Burnet County, Texas - was a son of John Jamison, b February 12, 1779 in Pennsylvania, d April 7, 1863 in Pennsylvania, who married April 2, 1808 to Ann Beatty, b March 2, 1784 in Virginia, d January 7, 1863 in Illinois - a daughter of William and Mary (McConnel) Beatty.

     Samuel was married on September 20, 1849 to Catherine Kirk Brent, b June 25, 1824 in Virginia, d January 24, 1897 in Burnet County, Texas - a daughter of Kenner and Elizabeth Brent. Samuel became a member of the Masonic Order, Oquawka Lodge No. 123 in Illinois on March 6, 1855. He was a minister of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

     About September 1859, the Jamison family moved from Mills County, Iowa by covered wagon to Texas. During the Civil War, Samuel drove a mail coach between San Antonio and Camargo, Mexico - a line of communication used because of port blockades by Union Naval Forces.

     A son, John Kenner Jamison, b September 17, 1854 in Illinois, d May 18, 1911 in Burnett County, Texas - was married November 24, 1886 at Burnet to Ella Nelia Love, b March 13, 1870 in Freestone County, Texas, d March 21, 1953 in Travis County, Texas - a daughter of John Patton and Elizabeth J. (Wylie) Love. John Kenner Jamison became a teamster, freighter, farmer, and law enforcement officer. He was a constable and jailer, and in May 1888, was commissioned a U.S. Marshal of the Western District of Texas. Their son, Madison Love Jamison, Sr., b February 17, 1896 in Burnet County, Texas, d February 3, 1925 in Lubbock County, Texas - married November 1, 1921 at Hearne to Blanche Merzelle Keeling, b December 28, 1900 in Robertson County, Texas, d February 23, 1972 in Falls County, Texas - a daughter of David Pierce and Mary Frances (Crutchfield) Keeling.

     Madison and Blanche had one son before his death: Madison Love Jamison, Jr. Blanche worked for the Bell Telephone Company in Hearne until her second marriage on November 12, 1929 to Perry Isaac Duncan - a great grandson of Green Berry and Rebecca (Curry) Duncan. In 1930, they, along with Cecil Brent Jamison, who was an auto mechanic, moved to Marlin, Falls County, Texas.
