WILLIAM HOMMEL

William Hommel, b November 7, 1855 in Danzig, Germany, d June 18, 1943 and buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Waco, McLennan County, Texas - arrived in Galveston, Texas from Germany in 1871, coming to Otto, Falls County, Texas to work on a ranch which was owned by Baron Bathman Von Helwig, the same year.

In 1884, William was married in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas to Rosa Hahn, b December 26, 1860 in Wusttemberg, Germany, d December 6, 1942 in Waco, and buried in Oakwood Cemetery there. By the time of his marriage, William Hommel had purchased a farm, and it was there that he brought his bride. He helped to establish the Evangelical Church at Mettina, where worship services were held twice a month. The congregation met in the Hommel home, until a building was erected in 1889 - serving for both, church and school purposes for thirteen years. At that time, the school district was transferred to Otto.

In 1921, William and Rosa Hommel moved to Waco, where they both died. They were the parents of eight children.
