JOSEPH NEWTON HOLLOWAY
Joseph Newton Holloway - a resident of Pineapple, Alabama, was married to
Terressa A. Beard, b November 3, 1845, d November 12, 1901 and buried in Calvary
Cemetery in Marlin, Falls County, Texas. Moving to Marlin in 1884, the children
were all educated in the Marlin Public Schools.
Joseph Newton and Terressa A. (Beard) Holloway were the parents of six
children:
Joseph Clark Holloway, b January 20, 1873 in Pineapple, Alabama, d
February 11, 1965 - married in 1897 to Annie Lou Oltorf, b November 7, 1878, d
July 10, 1952 - a daughter of Thomas Clifton and Sarah (Calvert) Oltorf.
Harriet Holloway (called "Hattie"), b January 12, 1875 in Pineapple,
Alabama, d July 13, 1941 and buried in Calvary Cemetery - married Basil C.
Curry, b July 17, 1872, d September 10, 1936 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in
Marlin - a son of Moses Henry and Julia A. (Logan) Curry.
Reverend Will D. Holloway, b July 2,1877 in Pineapple, Alabama, d
September 25, 1949 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin - married Nell Dew-
berry, b March 7, 1884, d February 4, 1953 and buried in Calvary Cemetery.
Elbert Beard Holloway, b July 5, 1880 in Pineapple, Alabama, d August 25,
1949 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin - was the second husband of Madeline (Bartlett)
Oltorf, widow of Frank "Peck" Oltorf - a daughter of Charles and Mary ("Mollie"
Dick- son) Bartlett. Elbert served as a Deacon in the First Baptist Church of
Marlin. As a young man, he worked for Curtis & Company in Marlin, and later was
a partner in Gardere & Holloway - a large dry goods store. After selling his
business, he worked for the O.P.A. during World War II, as gasoline rationing
officer for the State of Texas, and later in the banking division. At the end of
the war, he was in charge of dismantling the agency in Texas.
Newton Holloway - married Caroline Gambrell. No further information.
Albert Spencer Holloway, b April 14, 1886 in Falls County, Texas, d March
21, 1971 and buried in Calvary Cemetery - married Pauline Hunter b March 9,
1890, d October 18, 1971 and buried in Calvary Cemetery.
The Holloways were all reared in the Baptist faith, and they remained
active in that church. It is not known when or where Joseph Newton Holloway
died, nor where he was buried, as a gravesite has not been located in the family
plot in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin.
