HOMER VIRGIL HODGES
Homer Virgil Hodges, b 1817 or 1818 in Georgia, d between 1867 and 1870
in Falls County, Texas, and buried in the Churchill Jones Cemetery at Jones
Springs in Falls County - a son of William Elias Hodges and a brother of Pulaski
Pinkney Hodges. In l837, Homer Virgil Hodges married Jane Elizabeth Jean, b
August 27, 1820 in Virginia, died between l870 and 1880 in Falls County, Texas,
and also buried n the Churchill Jones Cemetery. Neither Homer Virgil or his
wife, Jane Elizabeth, have tombstones. Jane Elizabeth (Dean) Hodges was a
daughter of Aylett Jean and Ann Frances (Jones) Dean, a sister of Churchill
Jones. The family of Homer V. Hodges came to Texas between 1866 and 1869 from
Conecuh County, Alabama - first to Jones Springs, but soon
settled in the Live Oak area of Western Falls County. Homer Virgil and Jane
Elizabeth (Dean) Hodges had ten children - all born in Conecuh County, Alabama:
George Aylett Hodges, b in 1838, d 1909, married Rebecca Senter; Elias
Richard Hodges, b 1840, d 1905, married first in October 1869 to Margaret
McPherson, and married second to Dora Daffin; Elizabeth Hodges, b 1842, married
Frank Feagin; William R. Hodges, b 1844, married Adeline Scott and moved to
Ranger, Texas - reported to have six children: Irene, Lula, Homer, Richard,
Robert, and Ross Hodges; Mary Jane Hodges, b 1846, married W. N. Vaughn, b
February 26, 1848, d August 13, 1888 and buried Live Oak Cemetery; Emily Hodges,
b 1847 - believed to have married T. C. Tucker, with sons, Arthur and Quincy
Tucker buried in Live Oak Cemetery; James Pulaski Hodges, b 1849 - moved to
Orange, Texas; Frances Hodges, b 1854, married A. B. Tucker; Suzanne Hodges, b
1856, married N. B. Jones; Dixie Lula Hodges, b December 2, 1859, d March 28,
1890, married George W. Abernathy - buried in Live Oak Cemetery with four of her
children, three infants and one named Robert P. Abernathy; and Henry Clay
Hodges, b March 12, 1861, d October 17, 1904, married Mary ("Mollie") Neal or
Neely.
