Samuel B. Hancock, b 1842 in Tallapoosa County, Alabama, d 1871 in Falls County,
Texas--was the tenth child of Samuel Hancock, the only child of Samuel Hancock
second marriage on March 14, 1841 in Henry County, Georgia to Mrs.Sarah Holliday.
Samuel B. Hancock was married in 1866 in Tallapoosa County, Alabama to Louisa Jane
Adair, b 1848 in Alabama, d 1892 in Stranger and buried in Stranger Cemeter, Falls
County, Texas--a daughter of James W. and Alcey Elizabeth(Dillard)Adair, of Alabama.
With both their fathers deceased, Samuel B. and Louida Jane headed for Falls County,
Texas with his widowed mother, her widowed mother and her siblings, where Louisa
Jane uncles, Thomas Milton and Odell Duckett Dillard, had already migrated, via
Arkansas, with the Thomas D. Harlan family.
In March 1871, Samuel B. Hancock and brother-in-law, Samuel M. Adair, purchased 125
acres of land each, in the Alto Springs Community near Blue Ridge in East Falls County.
Samuel B. and Louisa Jane(Adair) Hancock were the parents of two children--both born
after their arrival in Texas:
Catherine Victoria Hancock, b 1867, d 1871 about the same time that her father died.
Holman Kendal Hancock, b January 19, 1869 in Falls County, Texas, d July 16, 1926
and buried in the Stranger Cemetery--married Gertrude Eliza Garrett--a daughter of
Robert Jasper and Mary("Mollie" Smith)Garrett.
The widow of Samuel B. Hancock, Louisa Jane(Adair)Hancock, married second that
year, 1871, to Harris Kay--a merchant at Stranger, who first wife, Sarah(Dunn) Kay, had
also died in 1871. Holman Kendal Hancock was reared by his stepfather.
