GUS J. GUDERIAN

 

 

     Gus J. Guderian, b September 10, 1872 in Washington County, Texas, d June 18, 1937 in Falls County, Texas - was a son of Ludwig and Annie (Dresner) Guderian. On January 24, 1895 in Falls County, Gus married Emma Wittner, b February 2,1874, d January 16,1959 at Satin and buried in Cottonwood.

     Gus and Emma lived in the Guda community - later named "Satin," where he was prominent in community and school affairs, a farmer, a merchant and ginner. He was appointed Postmaster at "Guda," named for the Guderian family, in 1911, 1915, and 1924.

     Gus J. and Emma (Wittner) Guderian reared eleven of thirteen children:

     Elsie Erna Guderian, b November 18, 1895 at Satin, d in 1984 - married April 29, 1929 to Gordon Ratcliff.

     Holbert John Guderian, b September 25, 1897, d December 18, 1973 - married January 31, 1924 to Lydia Luedke.

     Sophia Guderian, b October 19, 1899, d May 20, 1975 - married December 24, 1927 to Arthur McCarley.

     Selma Guderian, b June 4,1901- married January 5, 1923 to Ruben Collins.

     Arnold Guderian, b March 16, 1903, d July 19, 1980 - married December 3, 1924 to Pearl Wynn.

     Elora Guderian, b February 8, 1905, d March 13, 1965 - married December 5 (year unknown) to Homer Oglethorp.

     Elton Guderian (called "Preacher"), b January 25, 1907, d August 6, 1963 - married December 25, 1929 to Ethel Tylor.

     Lydia Guderian, b March 23, 1909, d April 30, 1909.

     Harold Guderian, b April 18, 1910, d March 26, 1911.

     Andola Guderian, b January 1, 1912, d March 21, 1952 - married James Ballard.

     Alverna Dorothy Guderian, b 1914-married first on September 17, 1939 to Claud Parrish, and second on June 30, 1962 to a Mr. McMillan.

     Melton Guderian (called "Buddy"), b April 4, 1916, d February 13, 1969 - married Odessa (Kelly) Criswell, widow of Herschel Criswell.

     Lester Guderian, b May 4,1918, d January 4,1944 in Belgium while in military service during World War II.
