JAMES
CRAWFORD GRAVES
James Crawford Graves, b January 1852 in
Robertson County, Texas - was the fifth of six children of George Washington
Graves, b ca 1814 in Tennessee, died before 1880, and his wife, Mary Elizabeth
Graves, b ca 1863 in Virginia, died after 1880. The parents immigrated to Texas
from Giles County, Tennessee ca 1850.
About 1874, James Crawford Graves was
married to Lennie Louisa Smith, b September 1856 in Louisiana, whose parents
were from Mississippi. James and "Louisa" had nine children:
George W. Graves, b 1875; Elbert Graves, b June 1878; Rosa L. Graves, b March
1881; Jimmie J. Graves - a daughter, b 1884; Ernest Graves, b 1887; Joseph
Douglas Graves, b April 1888; Vadney Graves, b June 1889; Lissie D. Graves, b
October 1891; and Merrell Graves, b June 1894.
The sixth child, Joseph Douglas Graves, married first in Robertson County, Texas
to Perlie Person, and had issue. He married second to Lola Agnes Keele, and had
Mary Lou Graves, b 1927, who was married in San Angelo, Texas to Thomas Edgar
Alexander, b 1921- a son of Fred and Ethel (Lester) Alexander. Thomas and Mary
Lou (Graves) Alexander live near Perry in Falls County, Texas; and he is the
maintenance director of Torbett-Hutchings-Smith Memorial Hospital.
