THOMAS TOLSON GORDON
Second obit for Thomas Tolson Gordon
Thomas Tolson Gordon is buried in the Union Cemetery with his second wife, Mary.
His youngest child, Guy William Gordon, is buried in an unmarked grave next to
them. One daughter, Gertrude Gordon, is also buried in the same cemetery
but not with the parents and brother. She died in 1900 at the age of about
24.
His first wife, Mollie, died sometime between November 24, 1885 (date of birth
of last child) and June 12, 1900 when Tom was listed as being a widow on the
1900 census. After finding out that Durango was severely hit by a tornado
in 1892, this could account for the where-a-bouts of his wife and one daughter,
Mabel C. Gordon. I'd be curious if a list of the dead was ever posted in
one of the newspapers.
Uncle Tom died Friday October 05, 1923 and was buried Saturday October 06, 1923.
The obit seems to mention the occurrence as being very recent.............
within the past few days. I'm still trying to find the grave of his first
wife, Mollie E. Emerson Gordon. The more I look at the obits the more I
have doubts she's buried in Lott or
Durango. His last child, Guy William Gordon, was born November 24, 1885 in
Marlin, Falls Co., Texas. One of the obits says that his first wife died
in 1885. By the way, the obit said he was born in
Lyons
Co., Alabama. He was actually born in
Lowndes Co., Alabama. His father and three of his uncles
first settled the area of
Gordonsville, Lowndes Co., Alabama. Uncle Tom was quite a
colorful character.
I'm the great grandson of Tom's brother, Robert Erwin Gordon, of Hamilton
County, Texas.
