James H. Forbes, b. July 24, 1804 in Kentucky, d. March 6, 1896 in Hill County,
Texas-was a son of John and Elizabeth (Hawthorne) Forbes of Virginia and South
Carolina, respectively. On September 16, 1840 in Giles County, Tennessee, James
married Elizabeth J. Howell, b. July 16, 1820 in North Carolina, d. November 23,
1883 in Hill County, Texas. They were the parents of nine children:
Robert Collin Forbes, b. February 12, 1842 in Giles County, Tennessee-married
January 1, 1865 to Amanda E. Craig, d. February 16, 1883 in Hill County, Texas.
Eliza J. Forbes, b. August 26, 1844 in Crawford County, Missouri-married J. S.
Brown on March 23, 1870 in Falls County, Texas. The marriage was performed by
her uncle, Reverend John R. Forbes.
J. E. Forbes, b. March 5, 1847 in Giles County, Tennessee, d. 1896-married Mary
(maiden name illegible) on January 8, 1877. The marriage was performed by the
groom's brother, Reverend Robert Collin Forbes, at the residence of the bride's
uncle, Isom.
Edith Eletha Forbes, b. June 11, 1849 in Giles County, Tennessee, d. November
12, 1912 in Hill County, Texas-married in Falls County, Texas on March 23, 1871
at the residence of the bride's father to John Thomas Kay, b. 1849 in Georgia,
d. March 6, 1872-a son of Harris and Sarah (Dunn) Kay who had settled in the
Stranger Community. The marriage was performed by the bride's uncle, Reverend
John R. Forbes. Edith and John Thomas had one daughter, Elizabeth Kay, b.
February 5, 1872, only one month prior to her father's death.
Martha Forbes-a twin, b. January 30, 1854 in Hays County, Texas, d. May 8,
1897-married in Falls County, Texas on December 11, 1870 to George P. Herbert.
The marriage was performed by Reverend Reuben Sanders.
May Forbes-a twin, b. January 30, 1854 in Hays County, Texas-married in Hill
County, Texas on June 24, 1879 to John Anstad.
J. M. Forbes, b. March 31, 1858 in Travis County, Texas-married on August 10,
1887 in Hill County, Texas to Mattie E. Hanks.
H. J. Forbes, b. January 9, 1863 in Williamson County, Texas, d. February 8,
1897-married first on October 16, 1878 in Bell County, Texas to F. A Sarnes, d.
March 4, 1881; and married second on December 14, 1884 in Hill County, Texas to
R. W. Grimes.
