Walter Dan
Fischer, b. 1891 in a tent near Marlin, Falls County, Texas when his father
worked on the railroad, d. in 1960 in Marlin-a son of Johann Daniel Fischer, II
of Germany and Lena (Wirz) Fischer of Swiss and German parents.
Walter Dan
attended Marlin school, and went to work as a teenager for the Schimming-Eddins
Plumbing Company. In 1914, he married Mabel Agnes Mims, b. 1890-a daughter of
Robert Asbury and Eugenia Adelaide (Harrington) Mims of North Carolina. The Mims
family had moved to Falls County, and owned a farm near Bald Hill, while
residing in Marlin. Mabel Agnes had three brothers, John, Linus, and Marvin
Mims; and it was Marvin Mims (Texas A&M Class of 1926) who co-authored the song,
"The Spirit of Aggieland."
Three sons were
born to Walter Dan and Mabel Agnes (Mims) Fischer: Walter Ernest Fischer, b.
1916; Leonard Albert Fischer, b. 1918; and Leslie Eugene Fischer, b. 1923.
During World War
II-with his sons in the military service, Walter Dan worked in a defense plant.
After the war, he reopened his plumbing business with his sons under the name of
Fischer Company; and it continues operation under the ownership of Leonard
Albert Fischer in 1986.
