Johann Daniel ("Dan") Fischer, II, b. 1863 in Germany, d. 1925 in Falls County,
Texas-son of Johann Daniel and Elizabethe Margarethe (Michel) Fischer, I-came to
America in 1882, landing in Galveston. He made his way to the German settlement
near Perry, in Falls County, Texas, where he was married in 1888 to Lena Wirz,
b. 1871 in Germany, d. 1973 in Marlin at the age of 102 years.
Lena's parents, Jacob Wirz of Switzerland, and Catherine (Schwann) Wirz of
Germany, emigrated to America-landing in New York and thence to Falls County,
Texas in 1875. Jacob Wirz was killed in an accident, and his widow, Catherine,
married secondly to John Bohn. She died in 1894. The Fischers and Wirz families
are buried in the Perry Methodist Church Cemetery.
Dan worked for the railroad, living with his family on Clark Street in Marlin,
where Dan worked for the Curry Lumber Company and Nash-Robinson and Company.
Dan and Lena (Wirz) Fischer had eleven children, but only six lived to
adulthood: Walter Dan Fischer, b. 1891, d. 1960, married in 1914 to Mabel Agnes
Mims; Paul Fischer, b. 1894, d. 1941, married Elsie Schulz; Felice Fischer, b.
1898, married Linus Mims; Fred Fischer, b. 1906, married in 1938 to June
Whiteley and moved to San Antonio; Lydia Fischer, b. 1910, married in 1932 to
Otha Link and lived in Anderson County, Texas; and Raymond Charles Fischer, b.
1913, married in 1934 to Ruby Gilmore, b. 1912.
After the death of her husband in 1925, Lena returned to Marlin from the farm
where she and Dan had retired-moving into a building that had been a German
Methodist Church until it was closed during World War I.
