TEXAS HANDBOOK ONLINE
Dan Edwards was Mrs. Tom Dennard's brother and lived across the street from us
in Mooreville. The reason I
remember him so well was how he uses to shoot a rifle. As I recall he would hold
the rifle with his bad arm, which was off above the elbow. He pulled trigger with his good hand and a shoulder strap
would keep some control after firing. At the time I did not know that he was one
of only three soldiers from Texas to win the Medal of Honor during World War I.
It shows him enlisting
from Bruceville, TX because he lived on a Bruceville that served the edge of
Mooreville.
This may be of
interest to Falls County folks.
Mrs. Wiley Dennard worked in; I believe the County Clerks office. Wiley Dennard
Sr. was his nephew. Wiley Walton and CT were his great
nephews. I'm writing this from memory and believe this to be correct. The Tom
Dennards ran a large general store in Mooreville.
Dan Edwards visited the Dennards often during the 1930's.
