Robert James Eakin, son of David Eakin and Mary McIntire, settled in Falls County in the Chilton Community after the Civil War. Of Scot-Irish parents, he was born -according to family tradition - in Mississippi. He migrated to Texas in the 1850s and was married to Amanda Jane Steadham in Van Zandt County on September 21, 1860. Before moving to Falls County sometime in the 1870s, the Eakins lived in Gonzalez County and later in the Bell-Coryell County area. He was born September 10, 1826 and died January 18, 1891. Amanda was born December 25, 1843 in Coosa County, Alabama, daughter of Calvin Steadham and Mary Jane Swain and died in Chilton on August 20, 1920.
