ROBERT BARTON DUTY
Robert Barton Duty, b July 11, 1846 in Hopkins County, Texas, d November
8, 1923 in Golinda, Falls County, Texas, was a son of William Henry Duty and his
second wife, Nancy Ann (Jones) Duty, pioneer settlers in the Golinda - Satin
area of Falls County near McLennan County. His ancestors migrated from North
Carolina to Tennessee, to Hempstead County, Arkansas, and thence to Texas.
At the age of 18 years, Robert Barton Duty enlisted in the Confederate
States Army in Company A of Cook's Regiment of heavy artillery, and was
stationed at Galveston for two years. At the close of the Civil War, he returned
to his father's home, engaging in farming and stockraising. He purchased land in
the Brazos River bottom, cultivating many acres of cotton and raising an
improved breed of horses known as "Mambrino" and "Kentucky Whip." He also had a
fine herd of cattle. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South.
On October 5, 1865 in Falls County, Robert Barton Duty married first to
Harriett Wozencraft, b February 2, 1845 in Arkansas, d December 19, 1877 at
Golinda, Falls County, Texas - a daughter of William Thomas Wozencraft, b
December 16, 1816 in Georgia, d December 16, 1890 in Holly Springs, Arkansas,
and Amelia Grant (Oliver) Wozencraft, b July 25, 1824 in Granville County, North
Carolina, d September 25, 1904 in Holly Springs, Arkansas. William Thomas and
Amelia were married September 4, 1840 in Clarke County, Georgia.
In 1879, Robert Barton Duty married second to Mary Ann ("Mollie")
Summers, b April 12, 1853 in Mississippi, d November 7, 1939 at Golinda - a
daughter of James and Mary (Flowers) Summers. By his first marriage, Robert
Barton Duty had four children, and had nine children by his second wife: By m1,
William Duty, b ca 1866 in Falls County, Texas, served in the
Spanish-American War. No further information.
Rosalie Belle Duty, b ca 1868, married A. L. Dickenson.
Nancy Ann Duty, b ca 1872, married on July 20, 1890 to John P. Clark.
Harriett Wozencraft Duty, b December 19, 1877 at Golinda, d March 26,
1904 in Eldorado, Oklahoma. Her mother, for whom she was named, died in
childbirth. Harriett Wozencraft Duty married on December 26, 1893 to Joseph
Sidney Miller, b November 15,1869 at Golinda, d December 10,1953 at Granview in
Johnson County, Texas. By Robert Barton Duty's second marriage, his children
were:

James Clay Duty, b ca 1888, married Minnie Florence Hood, and had three
children - all who reside in Golinda, Texas: Clara Edna (Duty) Haberman, Mary
Etta (Duty) King, and Sevilla (Duty) Perry.
F. Roger Duty, b ca 1890, d young.
George Griffith Duty, b ca 1892. No further information.
Pendleton Jett Duty, b ca 1894, married Clara B. Forney, and had Ruth
(Duty) Bowers who lives at Golinda, and Douglas Duty, who lives in Eddy, Texas.
