JESSE G. DUPREE

 

 

     Jesse G. Dupree, b November 29, 1860, d January 16, 1937 at Highbank, Falls County, Texas - was a son of John and Martha Dupree, slaves from South Carolina, who came to Falls County, Texas after 1870, settling at Highbank. Jesse purchased one hundred acres of land, and operated the grist mill at Highbank.

     In 1885, Jesse G. Dupree was married to Caroline Dangerfield, b 1869, d October 31, 1928 - a daughter of Walker and Polly (Robinson) Dangerfield, natives of Virginia.

     The family raised cotton, had pecan, peach, and plum orchards, and a large vegetable garden. Their two fresh water wells furnished an ample water sup- ply. Jesse kept his land, but after his death, it was sold by his children. The nine children of Jesse G. and Car- oline (Dangerfield) Dupree were:

     Mentha Dupree, b ca 1888 in Highbank - married Nelson Washington, and taught school.

     Melvina Dupree, b September 23, 1889 - married Thomas William Parker.

     Miles Dupree, b ca 1891, served in the U.S. Army during World War I, in France and England. He married Charlie Mae (maiden name unknown).

     Jessie Dupree - a daughter b ca 1893 - married Charles Foster, a teacher.

     Jeanette Dupree, b ca 1895 - married Willie Washington, a minister.

     Cleo Dupree, b ca 1897 - married Carl Raynor.

     Viola Dupree, b ca 1899 - married Arthur Maxwell.

     Lonnie B. Dupree, b ca 1900-married Grace Forbin. Ruby Lee Dupree, b ca 1902 - married Tobie Dixon.
