JAMES CURRIE
James Currie, b June 6, 1803 in Caswell County, North Carolina, d April 18, 1854
in North Carolinawas the fourth child of Joseph Currie, b May 8, 1769 in North
Carolina, and his wife, Jane Wiley, b February 22,1777, and all buried in
Caswell County, North Carolina.
On March 3, 1837 in North Carolina, James Currie was married to Julia Ann
Mitchell, b July 24, 1815 in North Carolina, d September 19,1882, and buried in
Carolina Cemetery near Durango, Falls County, Texas. James and Julia Currie had
eight children, one son and seven daughters.
After James died, Julia, her eight children, and other relatives immigrated to
Colorado County, Texas by 1860, and subsequently settled in Falls County, near
Durango, before 1870. The children were:
Mary Frances Currie, b January 1, 1838, d December 12, 1909 and buried in
Carolina Cemetery - married Dr. James Swepston Llewellyn, of Durango.
Sarah Jane Currie, b May 10, 1839, d February 5,
1930 and buried in Carolina Cemetery - was never married. Her "occupation: was
listed as "money lender."
Ann Elizabeth Currie, b October 31, 1840, d August 10, 1915 and buried in
Carolina Cemetery - was never married.
David Mitchell Currie, b February 28, 1842 in North Carolina, d March 26, 1916
at Durango and buried in Carolina Cemetery - married first to Ira A. lone White,
and had nine children; married second to Irene Morgan, b December 20, 1868 in
Tennessee, and had five children.
Cornelia Susan Currie, b December 13, 1843 in North Carolina -
married a Mr. Pattison, and had one child, Engia Pattison.
Virginia Caroline Currie, b November 30, 1845 in North Carolina - married
November 20,1874 in Falls County, Texas to John C. Bull, Jr., and had Florence
Bull and Bessie Bull.
Alice James Currie, b December 11,1847 in North Carolina, d February 17, 1911-
married a Mr. Tarver, and had Currie Tarver, Morris Tarver, Julia Tarver, and
Louis Kosseeth Tarver.
Martha Adaline Currie, b May 11, 1848, d December 17, 1925 - married May 11,
1878 in Falls County, Texas to John N. P. Cramer, and had Anna Currie Cramer,
and Bessie Cramer.
Julia Ann (Mitchell) Currie and members of her family lived in the Durango
Community of Falls County until deaths. They were members of the Carolina
Presbyterian Church, and later, of the First Presbyterian Church of Lott, Texas.
