     Lysias Brown CHILTON, Sr., b, October 24, 1849 in Greensborough, Alabama, d November 7, 1890 in Falls County, Texas and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin - was the son of a Baptist Minister, Reverend Thomas CHILTON, b July 30, 1799 in Kentucky, d August 15, 1864 in Texas and his wife, Louise (CONKLIN) CHILTON, b April 25, 1812 in Johnstown, New York, d October 1886 and buried in Calvary Cemetery, in Marlin, Falls County, Texas. The family immigrated to Texas in 1851, locating in Houston, where Reverend CHILTON was pastor of the Baptist Church. Prior to leaving Kentucky, he served two terms as a Congressman, and was also an Elector from Clay county. The Reverend and Mrs.
CHILTON were married January 3, 1843, and they had seven children: William H. CHILTON, who settled in Falls County; Frank B. CHILTON, who settled in Austin Texas; Matthew D CHILTON, who settled in Falls County, Texas; Hugh B. CHILTON, who died in 1875 and had been engaged in the mercantile business in Corsicana, Texas; Lysias Brown CHILTON,SR who settled in Falls County, Texas; Jenkin CHILTON who became a telegraph Operator; and Samuel Thomas CHILTON who died young. Before Reverend Thomas CHILTON died, the family had settled in Montgomery County, Texas.

     Lysias Brown CHILTON became a newsboy on the Houston & Texas Central Railroad about the time his father died, and remained in this position for four years. He then became a clerk for Cushion and Cave Stationers - remaining in that position for only a year, when he was made superintendent of a branch house in Galveston. He continued in Galveston until he, with a Mr. Collins, established a partnership in a mercantile business in Bremond, Robertson County, Texas - and subsequently he moved to Marlin, Falls County, Texas where he was employed as a clerk for George W. Perkins, in the Perkins store. Forming a partnership with a Mr. Parr, they bought out Mr. Perkins, and the firm became known as Parr & Chilton. Soon afterward, Mr. B.C. Clark bought out Mr. Parr, and then sold his share to Mr. CHILTON - and thus, Lysias Brown CHILTON became the sole proprietor of the business. At the time of his death, he had four branch houses of his mercantile business - located in Reagan, Chilton, Durango, and Eddy, Texas - with the office in Marlin, Texas. The town of Chilton was named in his honor when he opened the first mercantile store there, and purchased a bell for the school.

     On October 3, 1877, in Falls County, Texas, Lysias Brown CHILTON. SR was married to Ida Pauline ANDERS, b October 26, 1858 in Falls County, Texas, d June 26, 1940 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Texas - a daughter of James Hammett ANDERS and his first wife,, Pauline (YARBOROUGH) ANDERS.

     Ida Pauline had been sent by her parents to Mary Sharpe College, in Winchester, Tennessee for three years, leaving her senior year to marry Lysias Brown CHILTON. They have six children:

     Hugh Anders CHILTON, b September 17, 1878 in Marlin, Texas, d September, 1961 - married in 1925 to Mabel Smith BISHOP. They had no children.

     Ida Pauline CHILTON (called ""Jackie"") b August 30, 1879 in Marlin, d April 30, 1905 - married Eugene F. Smith, who married second to Ida (ANDERS) deBardeleben. She had no children.

     Annie Louise CHILTON, b March 28, 1881 in Marlin, Texas, d March 13, 1949 and buried in Calvary Cemetery - married June 10, 1908 to Thaddeus Clark LINTHICUM, b June 24, 1879 d April 26, 1960 and buried in Calvary Cemetery. They had two children: Jacie LINTHICUM, b October 11, 1909, who married in 1940 to Caleb D. HYATT, d in 1984, who was a foreign tobacco buyer - maintaining a base on the coast of South Carolina, but traveling all over the world, before returning in 1973 to live in Marlin, Falls County, Texas and a son Bradley Clark LINTHICUM, b July 7, 1911, d December 31, 1946 in an automobile accident, and buried in Calvary cemetery - served throughout World War II in the U.S. Army, as one of the Military Police sent to New Caledonia - then a French Colony - in the South Pacific.

     Lysias Brown CHILTON, Jr. b April 13, 1883, d April 7, 1928 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, married July 2, 1917 to Jane Harley TOMLINSON, b August 24, 1899, d January 9, 1979 and buried in Calvary Cemetery - a daughter of William Augustus and Harriet Serepta Hamilton (PEOPLES) TOMLINSON. They had four children: Jane CHILTON, Pauline CHILTON, Lysias Brown CHILTON, III., and Mabel Lee CHILTON. After L. B. Jrs death, Harley married second to his half-brother, Bradley J. LINTHICUM, Jr. and they had no children.

     Horace Lee CHILTON. b June 23, 1887 in Marlin, d February 13, 1949 in Marlin - married November 1916 to Evelyn Thodberg. They had a son, Jack Lee CHILTON, b August 26, 1917, d July 15, 1986 in Dallas, Texas who married first to Doris Harris, d November 6, 1940 on the day their only child was born, Doris Lee CHILTON, November 6, 1940, who married Allen McINNIS, and resided in Houston, Texas. Jack Lee CHILTON married second to Evelyn PAULING in 1941, and they had two sons: Jack Lee CHILTON, Jr. who married and resides in DeSoto, Texas; and John CHILTON, who married and reside in Arlington, Texas.

     Albert Hunter CHILTON, b August 10, 1890 in Marlin, d May 1963, who married first in 1916 to Marjorie ROGERS; married second in January, 1926 to Ethel Stuart - a daughter of John W. Stuart (1844-1922) who served in the Confederate States Army in Company B, 11th Mississippi Calvary, and his second wife Iona (PEOPLES) Stuart, b September 9, 1880, d April 1, 1959. Albert H. and Ethel had two children: Bradley Stuart CHILTON, who married - is a retired Professor residing in Commerce, Texas, who had a son, Bradley Stuart CHILTON, Jr., who reside in Stephenville, Texas - is married and
has Bradley Stuart CHILTON, III; and a daughter Ethel CHILTON, who married John RENTFRO, and has children.

     Lysias Brown CHILTON, Sr. was known as a liberal contributor to the Baptist Church, of which he was a consistent member. He was also a member of the L.O.O.F. After his death, Ida Pauline (ANDERS) CHILTON was married second in 1894 to Bradley J. LINTHICUM, b 1861 d 1938 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin. Bradley J. and Ida Pauline (ANDERS) LINTHICUM had one son, Bradley J. LINTHICUM,JR. , who married Jane Harley (TOMLINSON) CHILTON - the widow of his half-brother - March 1929. They had no children.

     Bradley J. And Ida Pauline (ANDERS) LINTHICUM built a beautiful colonial on Southland Street in Marlin, Texas, where they lived until they died. In later years, while owned by Dr. Howard O. Smith, the burned down.

     The first Flower Show in Marlin, Texas was held in the LINTHICUM home, where a Garden Club had been organized. She was well-tutored and educated, knowing Latin, Greek, and Music. Until a few months before her death at age 82 years, Mrs. LINTHICUM was still driving her own automobile.
