The
Bastrop Advertiser 1970s Newspaper
unknown but possibly the Bastrop Advertiser 1976 Celebrate Anniversary On
December 19, Elvin Ray Hemphill and Verna Bell Necessary celebrated their
54th Wedding Anniversary. Their long life together is truly a love story of
the most touching kind. Having known and grown up together near Red Rock in
Bastrop/Caldwell Counties, Texas, Mrs. Hemphill's father (Harvey G.
Necessary) moved to the Arne?? community in 1918.
Mr. Hemphill assisted the family in moving their furniture by train and
stayed on to become a farmer and to marry Miss Verna Bell Necessary in 1919.
Then for 28 years they resided in the Plainview Community, farming, and
raising three sons. Briefly, in 1947, they returned to Red Rock, but it just
wasn't "home" anymore and in 1952 they moved back to the
Turnersville community of Gatesville, where they now reside. They are the
parents of Reverend Murvil V. Hemphill, Pastor of Westview Baptist Church,
Estil E. Hemphill of San Angelo, Texas, and Clive W. Hemphill of Arlington,
Virginia. In this day of high divorce rates and unstable homelife, it is
comforting to know that some indeed, last a lifetime. Congratulations, Verna
and Elvin! |
