INDEX TO NATURALIZATION RECORD
DISTRICT AND
COUNTY COURTS
BASTROP COUNTY,
TEXAS
FROM 1837 TO 1941
Bastrop, July
21st, Delegation of the WPA naturalization record index in Bastrop County,
including the names of many naturalized civilians, was announced today by Wa. C. E. Wagoner, district
manager.
Completion of the
project, which was certified by the War Department as important in the National
Defense Program, makes information available on all persons naturalized in the
county p? to September, 1906, ? attached.
Later naturalization records required no ? be made, standardized procedure having been followed in
filing papers after the year 1906. Earlier information had been difficult
and sometimes impossible to obtain prior to the completion of the WPA project,
see attached. The naturalization project was prepared jointly by the Advisory Committee to the Council of National Defense and by
the Immigration and Naturalization Service of the Department of Justice. A
statewide index of naturalization records will be prepared, arranged
alphabetically by counties, and will be made available to the Immigration and
Naturalization Service, Carbin Copies of index records
will be available in the offices of county clerks for each county and for
future reference and use by investigators and the general public, WPA officials
stated. The project provided approximately 3 months employment for 3 clerical
writers in Bastrop County and six months employment for 400 workers in Texas.
