In
the name of God: Amen‑--I Margaret Wells of the state and district above
named, being in feeble health of body but of perfect mind and body (blessed be
God for the same) but calling to mind the mortality of my body, and knowing
that it is appointed to all to die: do make and ordain this my last will and
testament‑‑Principally and first of all I resign my Soul to God,
who gave it, and my Worldly Estate with which it has pleased him to bless me: I
give and bequeath in the following manners----
Item.
It is my will and desire that my funeral expenses, and just debts be paid as
soon after my death, as my executor can posibly do, I will and bequeath unto my
grand Son Thomas Wells Son of my Son Erby L Wells three negroes, Amos, Mitilda
& centry, and there increase to him and his heirs. but should my grand Son
Thomas die before he becomes of age or maries and has no issue it is my will
& desire that the above named negros be equally divided amongst his other
Sisters & brothers---
Item---I
will and bequeath unto my grand Daughter Elizabeth Wells daughter of my Son
Erby L We1ls, two negroes Louisa & Jinny and their increase to her and the
issue of her body, but should she die before she has any issue, it is my will
and desire that the said negroes Louisa & Jinny be equally divided among
her brothers & Sisters---
Item---I
will and bequeath to my son Erby the sum of five dollars
Item---I
will and bequeath unto my grand Son, Thomas Wells my Colt (Pieded)
Item‑‑It
is my will and desire that all the other stock that I may be possessed of at my
death, as also all my perishable property be sold, and after paying what debts
I may die owing, the balance
of
the money to be equally divided amongst my grand children‑‑‑
Item‑‑‑It
is my will and desire that my executor that I intend to appoint to this my last
will and testament, pay to my negro fellow amos the sum of five dollars
annually untill my grand Son
Thomas
becomes of age, and he comes into his possession the said sum of five dollars
to be paid from the income that my grand Son Thomas may desire from my
estate
Item‑‑I
will and bequeath unto my friend and relation Thomas G McLeod the sum of one
hundred dollars ‑--
Furthermore,
I do hereby constitute and appoint my friends Thomas G McLeod and Stephen
Lacoste Executors of this my last will and testament, revoking and annulling
all former wills and testaments--
