WILL OF BENJAMIN WARD

 

 

In the Name of God, Amen. The Eighteenth Day ofMarch, in the year of our Lord AD 1807.

 

I, Benjamin Ward, of Sumter District &endash;being very sick and weak in body, but of perfect mind and memory,thanks be unto God for the same and calling to mind the mortality ofmy body, and knowing, that it is appointed for all men once to die,do make and ordain this my last will and testament, that is tosay

 

Principally, and first of all, I give andrecommend my Soul into the hand of God that gave it, and asconcerning my body, I recommend it to the Earth: to be buried in adecent manner at the discretion of my Executors, nothing doubting:but at the General Resurrection, to obtain everlasting happiness, inthe life to come through the merits and meditation of my blessedRedeemer Jesus Christ. And as touching such worldly Estate wherewithit hath pleased God to bless me in this life. After my just debts ispaid -- I give, devise and dispose of the same in manner and formfollowing: that is to say

 

I give and bequeath to Patience, my Dearly Belovedwife, all my possession of land containing one hundred and fiftyacres, all my stock of horses and all my stock of cattle and hogs,together with all my household goods and movables at her disposalduring her widowhood: by her freely to be possessed and enjoyed: andat her death an equal division to take place with all the survivingheirs, sons and daughters. I do hereby utterly disallow revokedisannul all and every other testament, wills and legacies by me inany ways before this time willed and bequeathed: Ratifyed andconfirming this and no other to be my last will and testament: inwitness whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal the day andyear first above written
