WILL OF ANN E. ROACH
In
the name of God Amen
I
Ann E. Roach being of sound and disposing mind and memory and desirous to
dispose of what worldly estate it has pleased God to blefs me with, do make
this my last will and testament in manner and form following, to wit.
I
direct all my just debts and funeral expenses to be paid.
To
provide a fund for the payment of my debts I direct a sale of my land - the
crop on hand and all my personality
with the exception of my negroes.
To
my son William R. Roach I give a certain Negro boy called Dennis to him and his
heirs forever.
To
my sons William R. Bracy Roach and to my grand children Sally & Martha
Roach - Sary Ann and Mary Catherine Wheler - Martha, Sally, Victoria Susan
& Alice China or to such of them as may be living at my death I give and
bequeath my negroes and all the rest
and residue of my estate to be divided equally between them, that is to
say each child to take one share and the grand children to take the share which
their parent or parents would be entitled to if living . - the property included
in this bequest to be considered as given under limitation and entailment and
not to be liable to be taken for debt, or alienated . -
The
legacy hereby given to my grand children Sally & Martha Roach I desire to
be taken care of and managed for them by my friend William Sanders.
I
submit to the discretion of my Executors to sell the negroes for a division
among the heirs if deemed most expedient by them.-
I
appoint my friend Isaac Lenoir and my brother in law William Sanders Executors
of this my last will and testament.
In
witnefs whereof I have hereunto set my
hand in presence of D. F. Wyles.
Rebecca Hicks. and S. G. Giddings who have signed their names as witnefses
thereof in my presence, this twenty fourth day of March in the year of our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and forty nine.
