District) I John Blount Miller of the district & State aforesaid Planter,
being of Sound mind for which blefsing I thank Almighty God, through Jesus
Christ, I do make this my last will & testament as follows.
First I give and bequeath to my grandson David F Lide a negro boy named
Wingan to be delivered to Mr Ezra J Pugh & Margueret his wife to aid them
in his support if he resides with them or is under their contract, but if he be
with his father Mayer David R. Lide. to be delivered to him for the same
purpose, until he is of age or marries —
Secondly I give and bequeath to the children of my deceased daughter,
Elizabeth John Nettles, Scipio. Mary & Nancy & the increase of the
females. to be delivered to their father if a live, but if dead to their
Guardian to be divided between them but should either of my said grand Children
die before I do then the ifsue of each deceased one to take their parents part.
Thirdly I give and bequeath unto
my daughter Mary Margaret Pugh for her sole use a negro Man named Jef or
Jeffery but not to be delivered to her until after the death of my wife.
Fourthly I give and bequeath to my
grand daughter Mary Elizabeth Miller the sum of Three hundred Dollars ( or
property to that amount) to be paid to her Guardian if single & a minor,
Eighteen months after my death without interest.
Fifthly I give & bequeath,
unto my daughter Martha A.M. Lide a negro boy Elias, to be held to the same use
& trust as are mentioned in a deed of Isaac.
Sixthly I give and bequeath to my
daughter Mirander E. Scarborough a negro man named Dick to be held by her to
the same uses & trusts that are mentioned in deed of River & others
given by me to her.
Seventhly I give and bequeath unto my son John I Miller all my law &
equity books & all other of my Books. My Gold watch & appurtianes gold
& silver spectacles. Knee & sleve buckels. one of my old family chairs
that belonged to my parents also my Mahogany Chair purchased in Charleston
invented by W. Holmes.
Eightly I desire that Cinder
& Porter be allowed some time to find a purchaser.
Ninthly I desire that the rest of
my negroes. ten head of Cattle fifteen head of Sheep & stock of Hogs
Poultry, my small waggon. Carts, two horses & three mules all my plows
& Stock; Blacksmith Carpenters & shoe makers tools, my buggy. &
Corn, fodder peas, potatoes & Rice be kept for the use of my wife &
Susan( I mean provisions for one year) also all my household & kitchen
furniture. during their single State. Should Susan marry in her mothers life
time, then I wish her mother to give her a family of negroes & some
furniture that is if she does not reside with her, for her sole & separate
use. John I. Miller to be her trustee. They are to have also the use of my
Plantation on the south of Bay Branch & east of Nasty Branch.
The rest of my personal estate including
Cinder & Porter, to be sold — my land on the Northern side of Bay Branch
& West of my old road that croses Bay Branch lower down to be
sold
reserving a road from Bay Branch present crossing to the Public road by Mr
Willis Ramseys Plantation On the death or marriage of my wife then to Susan I
desire my plantation South of Bay Branch & eastward of the old road‑
also Jim & wife & children Jackson & wife & children & nat
& wife & children & Plenty and my household & kitchen
furniture, The lands negroes furniture &c to be held by Dr. John J Miller
and Ezra J Pugh in trust for her sole & seperate use whether married or
single freed from all debts. contracts & liabilities of any husband she may
have and after her death to go to her child or children. Grandchild or
Children, the grand Child or children representing their parents. but should
she never marry, then she is to dispose of it by will as she
pleases.-
The rest of my property to be divided as
follows. Osborn to John J Miller. Harriot & children to be sold . all the
rest of my estate, whether in debts due me, proceeds of articles sold also of
land. to be divided as follows ‑ Margaret one share. Martha one share.
Alixander one share. John J. one share • The children of Elizabeth J dec.d one
share-
I nominate my wife Mary E. Miller Guardian
of Susan‑
Lastly I nominate and appoint my wife
Executrix, John J Miller & Ezra J Pugh Executors hereof and authorize them
to sell the lands on North of Bay Branch directed to be sold & all other
sales that may be necefsary to make & use such terms as they may deem best.
