Will of John McFaddin
In
the name at God, Amen.
I John McFaddin of the District of Sumter,
in the State oft South Carolina Planter, being of sound, and disposing mind,
and memory, Praised be God for the same do make and ordain this my last Will
and Testament, in manner and form following. In the first place; I wish all my
Just debts to be paid out of my Estate.
Item, I give to Salem Congregation, two hundred
dollars, to be appropriated to the support of the Gospel, in that place; to be
paid by my Executors hereafter named, to any two of the Elders of said
Congregation,
Item I give to Midway Congregation, two hundred
dollars, to be paid by my Executors hereafter named, to any two of the Elders
of said Congregation, to be appropriated to the support of the Gospel in that
Church.
Item I give, to the Theological Simanary, about
to be erected in Pendleton Dist in this State, one hundred dollars; to be paid
by my Executors hereafter named, to any person authorised to receive the same,
Item I give to each of my Sisters (Viz)Mrs E
Witherspoon, Mrs M Muldrow, and Mrs A James, One hundred dollars: And to each
of my Neices,(Viz) Sarah A. Witherspoon, Addeline Muldrow, and Sarah A.
McFaddin, One gold half Eagle the value of five dollars to be paid by my Executors hereafter named,
Item I give to Mrs Susannah C, Shaw Fifty
dollars; to be paid to her, by my Executors hereafter named,
Item I give, and bequeath to my Son John G.
McFaddin, the one fourth part of all my lands, the one fourth of all my negroes,
the one fourth of my horses, the one fourth of my stock of gentle Cattle, Also
the one third of my Library; my desk and Bookcase, One mahogany bedsted, one
common do, and two Beds and furniture, Also my Silver Watch chain seal &
key, and one Gold Eagle the value of ten dollars And the fourth part of all my
personal Estate not herein otherwise disposed of, to him, his Heirs, and
Afsigns forever. Also I give My son,
Gamble my new Carpet.
Item
I give, and bequeath to my Son Thomas G. McFaddin, the one fourth part of all
My lands, the one fourth of all of my Negroes, the one fourth of my horses, the
one fourth of my stock of gentle Cattle, and the one third of my Library, Also
One mahogany bedsted, One common do. and two Beds and furniture, my mahogany
table and rounds, my double barrel gun, half a dozen silver table spoons, One
gold eagle the value of ten dollars, And the one fourth part of all my personal
estate not herein otherwise disposed of, to him, his heirs, & Afsigns
forever,
Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter Sarah A.
McFaddin, the one fourth part of all my lands, the one fourth of all my
negroes, the one fourth of my horses, the one fourth of my stock of gentle
Cattle, and the third of my Library. Also one mahogany bedsted, One common do,
and two Beds and furniture, my mahogany dining table, and mahogany Chest of
drawrs, and the looking glafs that sets on it, and the large prefs that sets in
the large room up stairs Also the set of China with the gold, or gilt, edges,
and my silver tea spoons, and five large table spoons, (Silver) and one gold
eagle the value of Ten dollars, Also the sum of five hundred dollars; And the
one fourth part of all my personal Estate not herein otherwise disposed of to
her her Heirs and Afsigns, forever. Also, I my daughter Sarah my Wire Safe.
Item I give and bequeath to my Son Robert H
McFaddin, the one fourth of all my lands, the one fourth of all my Negroes; and
this family of Negroes I here name, to be part of his lot of Negroes
(Viz)
Jule, Doll, Fortune, Charles, Jacob, Hannah, Peter, and Child Amarintha &
Old Hannah; Also the fourth part of my horses, the fourth of my stock of gentle
Cattle; Also one mahogany bedsted, one small do, and two Beds and furniture,
(to suit bedsteds) One Gold eagle the value of Ten dollars; Also the sum of
Five hundred dollars; And the one fourth part of all my Personal Estate not
herein otherwise disposed of, to him, his Heirs, and Afsigns forever. But
should my Son Robt. H McFaddin die, before he Marries, or arrives to the Age of
Twenty one Years: then in that case, it is my wish and desire, that the negroes
above named and their increase to be equally divided between his Uncles and
Aunt: To them, their Heirs, and Afsigns forever: And the Negroes and their
increase, not named in this Will, that will be added to Roberts Lot of Negroes
above named, and his Tract of Land, to return and be equally divided between My
Heirs, to them, their Heirs, and Afsigns Forever. And I do hereby nominate and
appoint my Honored Father in Law Thomas Witherspoon Esq.r of Alabama the
Guardian of my said Son Robert H McFaddin, and I do hereby direct and authorise
my Executors to pay over in trust one year after my decease to my said Guardian
the whole amount of the legacy aforesaid to my Son Robert H McFaddin, the same
to be Kept and managed by my said Guardian for the maintenance, clothing,
schooling, and complete education of My said Son, and whatever may remain of
said Legacy to be paid over to him, at his marriage, or at the Age of Twenty
one years,
It
is my Will and desire, that my Est. remain undivided untill my son Gamble comes
of age: It is also my will and desire, that my
Executors do furnish my Son Thomas, with money, out of my Est. to pay
the expences of his Education, Boarding, clothing, &c. My Son Thomas
returning whatever money he borrows over his part to my Executors when he
arrives to the age of twenty one Years. My cotton gins and hand mills to remain
where they are
It
is my will & desire that the remainder of my Estate; Wild Cattle, hogs,
Sheep, and sundries be sold and equally divided between my four Children, (John
, Thomas, Sarah, and Robert.) to them, their Heirs and Afsigns forever. Lastly,
I appoint my respected friends, Rob.t Witherspoon Esq.r and Capt John Shaw
Executors of this my last will and testament; Also my Sons John, and Thomas,
whenever they arrive to the age of twenty one years: To be Executors of this my
last will and testament, And I do hereby revoke and make void all former wills,
testament, and legacies, hereby ratifying and confirming this, and this only,
to be my last will and testament;
In
testamony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this day of June in the
Year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and twenty six: And of the
sovereignty and independence
of
the united States of America the Fiftieth. Signed Sealed, published and

do hereby authorise my Executors to appoint three or four freeholders to
