District ) I Jared Law of
State and District Aforesaid, being in full health of body, But of Perfect Mind
and Memory blessed to God for the same, But calling to Mind the Mortality of My
body and Knowing it is appointed unto all Men once to die, do Make and ordain
this My last Will and Testament, principally and first of all, I asign my soul
to God, who gave it, and the worldly Estate with which It has pleased him to bless me. I give and bequeath
in the following Manner, Viz and first.
1st
I Will and bequeath to my Grand Children the Children of my son J.R. Mc.Law one
Negro woman Named Lillie and I do hereby appoint my son John McDonald Law
Trustee for the afore Named property together with what I may hereafter
bequeath them, and it is my Will and desire
that
my Son J. R. McLaw have his support out of what I leave his children.
2nd
I Will and bequeath to my beloved Daughter Elizabeth Adelin Seale one Negro boy
Named Melichi.
3rd
I Will and bequeath to My beloved Son Alexander __. Law, one Negro Girl
named—Harriet.
4th
I Will and bequeath to My beloved Son,
John McDonald Law one Negro Girl named Laura.
5th
I Will and bequeath to My beloved Daughter Hariet E. Law, one Negro boy, Named
Isreal.
6th
It is my Will and desire that the Increase of the above named negroes belong to
those to whom said Negroes are Willed and that Should either of My above named
Children die without Issue, That the portion of such an one be equally divided
between the Survivors, or their respective Heirs.
7th
It is my Will and desire that my lands be equally divided between my sons
Alexander W. Law, John McDonald Law and J.R. McLaws Children. The Children to
have the one third among them. If It should be the Wish of My family to sell
the lands they can do so. It is also my Will and desire that Seven Hundred
Dollars be paid out of the Lands to each my Two Daughters Elizabeth Adeline,
and Hariet E. by Alexander W. Law, John McDonnld Law, and the Trustee of J R
McLaws children
8th
It is my Will and desire that~ all I havu Willed away as above and all I may
die pofsefsed of after the payment of my Just & Lawfu1 debts Funeral
expences &C/ Remain in pofsefsion of my
Wife
during her lifetime, at her discretion and at her Decease, all that, is Not
Named above I wish equally divided,
Between, Elizabeth Adeline Alexander W John __ Hariet E and one portion to the
children of J. R. McLaw.
9th
It is my Will and desire that at the
Decease of my Wife, My Negroes shall not be sold, But, put in Lots by chosen
free Holders and drawn for by the respective Heirs or there agents. It is also
my desire that those I have deeded, Viz. Mo1ire & family be devided in the
same way without sale if possible.
10th
It is also my Will & desire that should my land be sold, That, that portion
Willed to My Grand Children, as above be again laid out for Lands, by the
Trustees for them.
11th
Furthermore I constitute and Appoint my sons J.R. McLaw and Alexander W. Law
Executors to this my last Will and Testament, Revoking and annulling all former
Wills & Testaments in Witnefs where of I hereunto affixed my hand &
seal this Twenty eighth day of
March in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty Two
and in the Seventy Sixth year of American Independence.
