The State of South Carolina
Know all men by these presence that I, ThomasDavis of Sumter District and State aforesaid being in low health butof sound disposing mind do hereby make this my last Will
and testament in the manner and formfollowing.
Item 1st To my beloved wife Zina Davis - I willand bequeath my house and plantation, my Mill and all my land which Ishall not herein after bequeath to my several Children. And also onenegro girl named Sharlot and Daniel and Visey.
Item 2nd To my son Daniel Davis - I will andbequeath the plantation and tract of land on which he now lives tothe dividing line between said tract of land and the tract of land onwhich my son Alfred Davis now lives. And also one negro man namedCharles.
Item 3rd To my son Joel Davis - I will andbequeath all that plantation and tract of land on which he now lives,lying East of Scape O'er Swamp, reserving to my said wife Zina theswamp and as much of the up land as may at any time be over flowed bythe Mill Pond and a sufficiency to keep the mill Dam in good repair. And also one negro boy named Wesley.
Item 4th To my Daughter Gatsby Arrants - I willand bequeath one negro boy named Ben.
Item 5th To my son Abner Davis - I will andbequeath one negro boy named Solomon.
Item 6th To my son Alfred Davis - I will andbequeath the plantation and tract of land on which he now lives fromthe line deviding said tract from the tract on which Daniel Davis nowlives to a line yet to be made begining at the Atkinson Grave Yardruning thence to the nearest point where it will intersect with Mrs.R. James land and also one negro boy named Dennis.
Item 7th To my Daughter Kitsy McLeod - I will andbequeath the plantation and tract of land on which she now livesjoining lands belonging to Mrs. Roxana James, Samuel Grier and JamesCorbitt to a line yet to be made begining at my corner on said Mrs.James land runing thence in a Northerly direction up the deep bottomuntil it intersects with said James Corbitts lands. And one negrogirl named Serina.
Item 8th To my son Darlin Davis - I will andbequeath the plantation and tract of land on which he now lives to aline yet to be made begining at the foot of the hill on the ChildrenCroft line, runing thence by the Hyet Grave yard, to the head of abranch making out of Scape O'er Swamp and all land lying between saidline and Scape O'er Swamp. And also one negro boy namedDaniel.
Item 9th To my Daughter Nancy Davis - I will andbequeath one negro girl named Eliza.
Item 10th To my son Thomas Davis - I will andbequeath one negro girl named Luiza.
Item 11th To my son Joshua Davis - I will andbequeath one negro woman named Mary.
Item 12th To my youngest son John Davis - I willand bequeath two negroes, one a man named Daniel purchased of JamesCorbitt and his wife named Vicy. All the balance of my property ofevery # Interlined before signed name and discreption after my Justdebts are paid (if any), I do hereby will and bequeath to my saidWife Zina Davis, during her life and at her death the negro girlSharlot which I have herein bequeathed to her, my said wife Zina, togo to my youngest son John Davis and all the balance of her propertyto be equally divided between my four youngest children (viz) Nancy,Thomas, Joshua and John Davis. And should either of my four youngestchildren die leaving no heir of body, then and in that case, all theproperty I have herein bequeathed to such child thus dieing withoutIfsue to be equally divided between all the balance
of my children.
And I do hereby nominate and appoint my wife ZinaDavis, Executrix to this my last Will and testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand andseal this eighth day of May, one thousand eight hundred and fortyone. And in the sixty fifth year of the AmericanIndependence.
