WILL OF WILLIAM CARTER

 

 

South Carolina

Sumter District

 

I William Carter of said State and Districtaforesaid, knowing that it is appointed by God for all to die and noone knows the time that is appointed, I William Carter now in goodhealth and mind, do believe it expedient to make this my last willand testament and desire that I may be reserved by all as such

 

Then, I give up my body to be returned to itsmother Earth, to be buried in a decent manner

 

Then, I wish all my lawful debts to be paid thenthe remainder of my property which God in his providence has bestowedon me I wish it to be left in the following manner, viz:

 

Item I leave and bequeath unto my beloved wifeMary Carter-- Jacob and his wife Marey, and all her children that shehas or may have, Hannah, Lucy, and Young Jacob, and Allen, and all ofmy stock of cattle of every kind, horses, cows, and householdfurniture of every kind and kitchen tools.

 

Item I leave and bequeath unto my beloved DaughterSusanah Jain Bell Carter; negroes, Jimmey, Jerey, Bristo, Mingo,Melley, and her child, Partena and her child, and the Plantation,that I now live on and all the lands ajoining to it, but my wife MaryCarter to have it during her widowhood.

 

Item, I leave and bequeath unto my beloved sonJohn Carter five hundred dollars to go to him twelve months after mydecease

 

Item I leave and bequeath unto my beloved daughterMargaret Rees five hundred dollars to be paid one year after mydecease

 

And I constitute make and appoint John Carter,William Ervin and Joseph Commander the Executors of this my last willand testament
