In the name of God Amen, I John Woods of SumterDistrict & State of South Carolina, being of sound Mind anddisposing Memory, Do make and declare this my last will &Testament VIZ Item; it is my will and desire that all my Debts &funeral Expences be first paid out of my Estate---
Item I give and devise my plantation near thegreat Savannah on the North side of Santee containing four hundredacres to my Nephew Edward James Cannon to vest in him the said EdwardJames Cannon when he shall arrive at the age of Twenty one years, andto the heirs of his body lawfully begotten forever But in case heshould died without ifsue lawfully begotten then it is my will anddesire that the said plantation shall descend and act in my NephewRobert Cannon & my Nieces Jane Cannon Susanna Cannon and MaryCannon upon them respectively arriving at the age of Twenty oneyears, to be divided among them share and share alike upon themrespectively arriving at the age of twenty one years to them &each of them, their & Each of their Heirs of there bodiedlawfully begotten forever, But in case of the Death of any one ormore of the last mentioned Devicees without ifsue lawfully begottenthen & in each case it is my will, that the share of suchdeceased Divisees or shares of such deceased Divisees, shall descend& vest in the survivors to them & their Heirsforever:---
Item I give and divise unto my beloved SisterElizabeth Cannon all My house hold furniture & wearing apparel toher & her heirs
Item, I give divise & bequeath all the rest& residue of my Estate both real and personal to Edward JamesCannon Robert Cannon Jane Cannon Susannah Cannon & Mary Cannon,to vest and be Equally divided among them as they may respectivelyarrive at the age of Twenty years or get married, to them and theheirs of there bodies lawfully gotten forever and in case of theDeath of any one or more of the said legaties in the foregoing clausementioned, without, ifsue then the share or shares of such deceasedlegatie or legaties to descend and vest in like manner in thesurvivors---.
Item, It is my will and desire that my Executorsherein after mentioned & appointed, shall keep my Estate togetheruntil the Divises & Legaties shall by the time of this my will beoutfilled to receive the respective shares and that in the mean timethe profits & increase thereof or so much of the profits as theyshall deem necefsary shall be laid out by them in the maintainanceSupport Education of my Nephews & Nieces before mentioned & IEarnestly recommend to the parents of the said Children beforementioned, to give them up to the management direction & care ofmy said Executors as soon as they shall be old enough to be put toschool--I constitute and appoint my Dear Friends James HarperMcKnight & John Simpson (& Edward James Cannon when he shallarrive and become of age) to be my Lawful Executors of this my Lastwill and Testament; herein & hereby revoking all other wills& Testaments by me heretofore made--In Witnefs whereof I havehereunto set my hand and Seal this first day of September--in theyear of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred & six
