Will of Peter Williams

 

In the Name of God, Amen.

I Peter Williams in the District of Sumter andState of South Carolina, being sick of Body, but of perfect Mind andMemory, do make this my last will and Testament. First I desire thatmy Just Debts may be paid;\ After which I give to my Daugher Evelina,and the Heirs of her Body forever, all the Estate or property Ipossesse; Consisting of Six Negroes, (named as follows, Cill,Charity, Maryann, Charles, Toby, Ben), a Stock of Horses and Cattle,Household goods, an furniture, crop of cotton, and Wages dueme.

It is my Will, that my wife who I do herebyappoint Executrix of this my last will and Testament during herWidowhood; shall hold in possession all the Estate or Property abovementioned, during that time or in case she does not again Marry,during life, for the Purpose of improving it, in the best manner herjudgment may divert, for my Daughter Evelina; but in case she doesagain Marry, it is my Will that she on the day of her Marriage, Ceaseto be Executrix of this my last Will and Testament, and that all theEstate or Property above mentioned, on that day, be given up into theHands of the Executors, to be by them improved, for the Purpose abovementioned. X Nevertheless, on the Marriage of my Wife, if she doesagain marry, I give her a Horse and saddle and Briddle; the Value ofwhich I leave to the discreation of my Executors. XXXXXXX

Further, If my daughter Evelina, dies withoutChildren, I do in that Case will my Estate or Property in thefollowing Manner.

First; to my much Honored Mother, and her Heirsforever, I give the Negro, Cill, above mentioned-

Secondly to my Wife's brother James Bennet, andhis Heirs forever, I give the Negro, Toby, above mentioned-

Thirdly, to my brother Joseph Williams and hisHeirs forever, I give the Negroes, Charles and Ben, abovementioned.-

Fourthly, to my brother William Williams, and hisheirs forever, I give all the residue or remainder of my Estate orProperty whatever. XXXXXXX

It is my Will, that this last Division of myEstate, (beginning with the word Further) shall take place on the dayof the marriage

Lastly I appoint my brother Joseph Williams, andmy Friend William Guinard Richardson, Executors of this my last Willand Testament, written on this and the foregoing side of this Sheetof paper, and dated this twenty fourth day of December in the Year ofour Lord One thousand Eight hundred.
