WILL OF WILLIAM RICHARDSON

 

In The Name of God Amen---

I William Richardson of Bloom Hill in the districtof Camden and State of South Carolina in perfect Mind and Memory domake this my last Will and Testatment.--- First my Just debts Idesire may be paid out of the Sums due me on Bonds or otherSpecialties, after which the remainder of my Estate I will in thefollowing Manner --- To my Wife in liew of her dower I give the Sumof One Thousand pounds Sterling tobe paid her out of the good Bondsor other Specialties that I leave at Interest, which said Bonds orother are to be paid her whenever she pleases to demand them and tobe wholly subject to her disposition.

To Each of my Daughters (whether born before thedate of this Will or after) I give the sum of One Thousand poundsSterling to be paid to each of them (that may survive the age ofTwenty one Years) on the day after their attaining the saidage.---

To my Wife during her Widdowhood and in liew ofher dower, and to all my Children Male or Female (now born or thatmay be born after the date of this Will) I give the Income of myEstate for their Maintenance and bringing up in a decent manner inthe Country, trusting that my Executors (if the said Income should bemore than sufficient for that purose as I hope it will) with thesurplus will Improve my Personal Estate in the best manner theirJudgments may point out until two of my sons shall attain the age ofTwenty Two Years at which time I desire that my whole personalProperty Including Money at Interest (after paying to my Wife and theSurvivors of my Daughters the Several Sums herein before given tothem) be equally divided between my Wife and all my Children that maybe then living share and share alike giving each ones sharerespectively to them and their heirs forever, provided neverthelessthat if my Wife should choose to Marry again she shallinethat case beescluded altogether from this intended division of my personal Estateand be only intitled to the said sum of One Thousand pounds Sterlingherein before mentioned and that in liew of her dower on my Estate.and also if but one of my sons should Survive & attain the saidage of Twenty Two Years the said division must still take place onhis attaining to that age.

To My Sons (whether born before the date of thisWill or after) that may survive the age of Twenty one Years I give mywhold real Extate (or Estate in Lands) to be equally divided betweenthem on the day that the youngest attains the age of Twenty Two Yearstrusting that they will not disagree in the division thereof and eachones share after the said division takes place I give to them andtheir heirs for ever but in case none of my sons should live to thesaid age then in that case my said Daughters in the same manner asintended between my sons should they live, and as I always had anaversion to the Name of Richardson I desire and request that myChildren would change it for rich, which is a short easy wrote nameand the first syllable of my Name & if they love me or respect mymemory they will acknowledge no other Name.---

Lastly I appoint my Wife (during her widdowhood)Executrex and my much Honoured and Esteemd Friends Charles CotesworthPinckney, John Pringle, John Smyth and John Chestnut and all my Sonsas they attain the age of Twenty one Years, Executors of this my lastWill and Testament fully impowering my said Executors to let Money atInterest or make purchases with the Money that may be paid into themor produced by my estate, as their Judgments may point out and herebyrevoking all Wills heretofore made, and acknowledging this my lastWill and Testament dated at Bloom Hill this first ---day of Decemberin the year of Our Lord One Thousand & seven hundred and EightyFive and Written with my own hand on the above and foregoing side ofthis sheet of Paper--- Signed Sealed and declared to be the last Willof the Testator in presence of
