State of South Carolina
In the name of God Amen---- I JamesRamsey of Sumter District and state aforesaid being in a low state ofhealth but of sound mind and memory, and knowing that all men have todie, do make and ordain this my last will and testament. ------ That is to say----- first, I recommend my soul to almighty God whogave it and my body to be buried in a decent and Christian likemanner by my Executors---- and is to what property it has pleased Godto bless me with, (after the payment of my just debts.) ---- I giveand dispose of in manner following. Viz. Item, I give and bequeathunto my two children Matthew Fort and Amanda Fort (also children ofMary Fort) deceased, all my estate both real and personal of whateverkind soever, also my stock of cattle, horses and hogs and all of myhousehold and kitchen furniture with all money and debts due to mewhatsoever, to them and their child or children surviving the age oftwenty years or marriage, and in case either shall die without achild or children as above, then his or her part hereby given toreturn to the living heirs of my family--- to be equally dividedamong them and do hereby appoint--- John Ramsey and Willis Ramsey, mytwo brothers and also Richard Moore my lawful Executors-- In witnessI have hereunto set my hand and seal this 24th DUR of 1812.
