Will of Jacob Kingswood

In the name of God, Amen. I Jacob Kingswood of theState of South Carolina, Sumter District, Clarendon County, Planterbeing in good health of body, and of sound mind, memory andunderstanding, praised be to God for the same, do make this my lastwill and Testament in the following manner----------------------------------------------------------------

1st It is my Will and desire that All my justDebts should be paid as soon after my decease as can be convenientlydone----------------------------------------------------------------

2d It is my Will and Desire that the Tract of Landwhich I am now living upon containing Three Hundred Acres granted toJames McGirth with all the buildings and appurtinancies there unto ILend to my beloved wife during her natural life in lieu of Dower-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3d It is my Will and desire that the whole of myother Lands should be sold upon a credit of from One to two years asmy Executors and Execra may find most advantageoda with a Mortgagefo the same, after two Crops having being made thereon, and theamount of Sales with the Interest be applied to the purchase ofother lands where ever my Son inlaw William White & my Daughter Clarefas his wife may make choice of, which said Lands when purchasedthe titles shall be made to my Exedx. and Exacra. for my Grand Children---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4th It is my Will and desire that my Son inlawWilliam White and my daughter Clarefas with all my Grand childrenhave the mutual use of the lands as purchased with all my negroeshereby immediatley name to Wit: Janny, Paul, Harriman, Gib,Harriott, Hame, Isham, Natt, Maryann, Dick, Winny, Melly, &little Isham with all their future increase untill my eldest Grandchild then living shall atain the age of Twenty One Years if a Son,and if a Daughter the Age of Eighteen years, then and which time itis my Will and desire that a Division of the whole of my Estate bothReal and Personal shall be made in the following manner, to wit, Onethird part of my whole Estae both real and personal, I lend to myson in law William White and my Daughter Clarefas White, and at herDeath to go to my Grand Children, Share and Share alike amongstthem; the remaining amonhgat (amongst) them; the remaining [handwritten in(two thirds of estate both real and personal)] to beequally Divided between my Grand children share and share to themand the lawfull Heirs of their bodys forever

5th It is my Will and desire esprefaly that myGrand Children be liberally Educated and decently maintained fromthe profits arising from my Estate.

6th It is my Will and desire that the Tract ofland which I lend to my dear wife during her life time in lieu ofDower shall be sold at her Death and the Money therefrom to be laidout in the purcahse of negroes for the whole use and benefit of myGrand children share and share alike between them, and the Heirs oftheir body's forever----------------------------

7th It is my Will and desire that the whole of theNegroes which I got by my marriage with my present Wife with alltheir future increase shall return and belong to my beloved wifeMargarett Kingswood and be at her disposal forever, to wit, Lucy,Peter, Sailor, Lewis and Hester, Neptune, Charlotte, Mongo andZelphar-- And I likewise lend my Dear Wife One yellow negroe Boy byname John during her natural life, and at her Death to return to andbelong enitrely to my Grand Children to them and the Heirs of their body for ever--8th It is my will and desire that my Wife take andhave the two following Horses, Mechanic and Ranter and my new Chair,with one third part of my Stock of Cattle, Hogs and sheep, and theother two thirds of my Stock of Cattle, Hogs and Sheep I give andbequeath to my Son in-law William White for his own & the use ofmy Grand Children- I also desire that my Sorrel Horse partner be soldfor the benefit of my Grand Children, the remaining Stock of Horsesto be kept for the use of the Planation-----------------------

9th It is my Will that my waggon, and one half ofall my plantation Tools be and remain for the use of the Plantationwith my hand Mill Stones, and the other half of the Tools for myWife with the Grind Stone-----------------------------------------

10th I give and bequeath to my Daughter ClarifsaWhite One Bed, One matrafs & the furniture attached to them; andall the residue of my House hold furniture of every descriptionshall be equally devided bewteen my Dear Wife & my DaughterClarifsa, with the exception of a pair of Mahogany dining Tables, andthe residue of my Beds, Matrafa's & furniture which I have notalready disposed, which Tables & Bed with the furniture I give to my wife & to her disposal

11th An lastly I nominate and consititute my DearWife Margarett Kingswood Executrix and my friends Matthew Hames& Samuel Nelfon Executors of this my last Will & Testament;hereby revokding and making void all former Wills and Testaments atWitnefs whereof I hereunto set my hand and Seal this 6th day of Junein the year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Ten
