I Phinehas Gibson of Sumter District and State ofSouth Carolina being, in health of body and Of Sound mind &memory, & Understanding, Blifsed be god for the same do make thismy last will and Testament, in manner & form following that is tosay principally & first of all I give & recommend My Soulinto the hands of almighty god who gave it & my body to the earthto be buried in decent, Christian burial at the discretion of myExecutors, hereafter named nothing doubting, but at The generalResurrection, I shall receive the same again by the mighty power ofgod &endash; And as touching Such worldly estate as it hath pleasedGod to blifs me with in this life &endash; I Dispose of as followsafter my Just Debts are paid, I give in trust, for my DaughterElizabeth Richbough, During her natural life the one fifth part ofall my personal property which I may pofsefs, or be intitled Unto atthe time of my Death & after her Discease it is my desire thatthe One fifth part of my personal property, given in trust, to her myDaughter Elizabeth Richbough, to above mentioned, Shall be equalitydivided between the lawful begotten heirs, of the body of my SaidDaughter Elizabeth Richbourgh, Share & Share alike, and I appointmy sons, James Gibson, John Robert Gibson, & Mathew James Esqr.,as Trustees, for my Said Daughter, Elizabeth Richbourgh And thelawful heirs of her body, as above

Phinehas Gibson was under General Marion in theRev. War (W 22081) as per Jean Brunson's notes.

An earlier note by descendant Samuel NorrisGibson: Phinehas (Phineas) Gibson was a farmer. He owned 300 acresof land on August 31, 1813. This land lay somewhere between thepresent towns of Sumter, Lake City and Manning, SouthCarolina.

In Biblical terms:

Phinheas is a Biblical name (Exodus 6:25) "AndEleazar Aaron's son took him one of the daughters of Putiel to wife;and she bare him Phinehas: there are the heads of the fathers of theLevites according to their families".

 

Parents were Robert Gibson & Mehitable Spry. He was named after his mother's father, Phineas Spry of SC. We knowthat he had a brother named John James Gibson who lived next to himon Black river.

 

In the South Carolina Memorials of Land Titles,1774-1776

7 Apr 1775 : JOHN JAMES GIBSON, 100 acres in St.Marks Parish, N of S Fork of Black River. Bounded on SE, PHINIKASGIBSON; other sides vacant. Survey certified 26 July 1774; granted30 Sept 1774. Quit rent in 2 years. Ishiam Moore, DS. Delivered19 Oct 1775 to John James Gibson [13-438:1]

His daughter, Elizabeth, married WilliamRichbourgh and one of their sons, Hugh, died 1867 in Coffee Co.,AL.
