WILL OF

 

Thomas Coulliette

In the name of God Amen!

I Thomas Coulliette of Sumter District and Stateof South Carolina, planter, being sick in body, but of sound anddisposing mind, memory, and understanding, praised be God, for thesame, do make and ordain this my last will and Testament in the wordsfollowing, to wit:

First, it is my will and desire, that all my justdebts and funeral charges be respectively paid; and I do hereby setapart and pledge as a fund for the payment of my debts aforesaid, theproceeds of all the lands to which I may be found entitled, lying inCharleston or Colleton districts, or else where, after the recoveryof the same by my Executors in behalf of my Estate; or as muchthereof as maybe necessary for the purposes aforesaid; and thebalance of the proceeds of the sales of said lands, if there shouldbe any remaining, to be distributed between my wife and children inthe same manner in which the balance of my Estate is herein afterdirected to be distributed.

I give, bequeath, and devise unto my beloved wifeNancy Coulliett, and my four children Nancy, Christopher, James P.and William Washington Coulliett, all the balance and remainder ofmy Estate, of what nature or description soever, after paying my justdebts as aforesaid, and including whatever may be received from theEstate of William Richardson deceased, in my behalf, in the suitabout to be instituted by Jeptha Dyson Esq; - to be divided betweenmy wife and children aforesaid in the manner following, to wit; thewhole to be divided into six equal parcels or shares, and my sonChristopher Coulliette to draw two parcels or shares; and my wife andthree children, Nancy, James P. and William Washington Couliette, todraw one parcel or share each; provided my son Christopher Coullietteundertakes the care and management of my Estate as Executor as hereinafter appointed, and it being understood, that the above allowance orbequest of an additional share over & above the rest of thelegatees, is to be in lieu of all charges for commission, or for histrouble in the management of my Estate, or in providing for, andattending to the welfare of my wife, daughter and youngest son: Butif my son Christopher Coulliette should refuse to take upon himselfthe duties of Executor, and other undertakings aforesaid, then thewhole of my Estate as aforesaid, to be equally divided between mywife and four children aforesaid, share and share alike. It is alsomy Will and desire that my Executor sell immediately my two sorrelmares to pay the most pressing & immediate demands against me,and the younger of the two, if she dois not sell unreasonable high,to be bought in by my Executor for the use of my Wife and daughter.

I do hereby nominate, constitute, and appoint myson Christopher Coulliette the Executor of this my last Will &Testament, hereby revoking all former wills and ratifying andconfirming this to be my last Will & Testament, this 19th day ofApril

1818.
