Sumter Female Institute Graduating Class

circa 1879

This photo was probably taken just prior to May 1879 when Robert's great- grandmother, Netta Shaw was married .

The Sumter Female Institute or academy went out of business in l902. Dr. N.W. Edmunds,was a teacher at The Sumter Female Institute and then minister of the First Presbyterian Church in Sumter for 25 years.

Hattie Nettles, from Sumter. She married Henry Wells

Frances Louisa Hudson, from Lynchburg. She married Dr.Francis Mayes

Mattie Clark, from Manning. She married Mr. McHagen(r)

Mary Netta Shaw, from Sumter. She married Robert Muldrow Cooper
