A melancholy accident occurred at East-Greenwich on Saturday last; the particulars, as we are informed, are as follows: As Mr. David CULVER, of Coventry, aged about sixty, and his son aged about twenty years, were collecting Quahogs, on a point of land running out into the harbour, the son not being acquainted with the situation of the bottom, stepped off into the channel, which the father perceiving, immediately went to his assistance, and both having their shirt bosoms filled with Quahogs being unable to swim, were drowned.

The piety and moral virtues which were eminently displayed throughout the protracted life of this venerable lday, rendered her highly interesting to her family and acquaintance. On the Sunday following her remains were respectfully deposited in the family burying ground in Warwick.

-At Harwich, N. Y. August 23d Elder Abraham LIPPITT, aged 65, formerly of the town of Warwick, in this State. This truly respectable man uniformly supported an exemplary character, and was enabled by the aid of his gracious God to sustain all the ills of life (of which he had an uncommon share) with that fortitude and resignation that become a Christian. He entered the Church of Christ in 1774; was ordained an Elder in 1782, and had the pastoral care of a Church until the time of his death.

She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Society, and her life was conformable to the religion she professed, and exhibited to her family and friends an example of piety and the Christian virtues -- her firm faith in the merits of her Redeemer, tranquilized her last moments, and cheered the dark passage to the tomb. She has left a husband and children to lament their irreparable loss.

--On the 6th instant, after a long and distressing illness, Captain Benjamin GREENE, in the 43d year of his age. For the loss of this active and worthy citizen, the publick must mingle their regrets with those of his afflicted family. His domestick and social virtues, secured him many friends. For many years he had been a member of the Masouick Institution, and indefatigably laborious in the promotion of its tenets, and the welfare of mankind. On the 8th instant, a large and respectable number of Brethren, duly formed, proceeded from his late dwelling-house, to the place of interment, where the last tribute of respect was paid to his mortal remains. He left a disconsolate widow and two endearing children to mourn their loss.

-In Warwick, on Sunday last, Squire MILLERD, Esquire, in the 70th year of his age; an officer of the Revolution, for many years a member of the Legislature of this State, and for a long time, and until his death, member of the Town Council of that town; the duties of which offices he discharged with honour to himself and usefulness to the publick. He was a kind husband and tender father. But, above all, he early embraced the Christian Religion, and was a member of the Baptist Church in that town of the order of the six principles. He steadfastly held the faith, and died in the full belief of a blessed resurrection.
-In East-Greenwich, on the 30th ultimo, Colonel MICAH WHITMARSH, in the 71st year of his age. He was an officer in the Continental service, during the principal part of the revolutionary war, and received a pension from the government. He was through life a valuable citizen, and was deservedly esteemed for his many virtues and amiable qualities.

Her life was an ornament to the Christian religion, and her name will be remembered with pleasure, by the wise and good who knew her, so long as religion, piety, universal benevolence and unbounded philanthropy, constitute amiable traits in the human character.

-In Warwick, yesterday morning, in the 70th year of his age, Major Thomas HUGHES, a distinguished officer of the Revolution. The deceased was in active service during the whole period of the Revolutionary War, and was afterwards three years on the Indian frontier -- making in all ten years, devoted to the service of his country. Some circumstances induced a suspicion she had been murdered; and an inquest was held upon her body. After investigation, the persons who had been suspected and apprehended, were discharged. It is presumed that the deceased, after many efforts to reach her home, was overcome by the intensity of the cold. Gazette.

-In Warwick, a few days since, Mr. John WISE, aged about 90 years. He was born in Langravate of Hesse-Cassel (Germany). At an early age, in consequence of the death of his Prince, he entered the service of a foreign power - landed with the British army at New-York, and was at the capture of Louisbourg, Cape Breton in 1758. In 1759, he was a soldier under the immortal WOLFE, in the memorable battle on the Plains of Abraham. In 1762, he fought, as a British soldier, at the siege of Havana. He subsequently returned to America, and was for some time garrisoned in Quebeck, and afterwards at the Island of Jamaica, where, he was finally discharged. About the year 1770, he settled at East-Greenwich, in this State, and at the commencement of the Revolutionary War, enlisted as a drummer in a Rhode-Island volunteer Company, which encamped with the American forces under WASHINGTON at Cambridge. During the whole of that arduous struggle, this humble veteran served with fidelity, and held various subordinate offices such as Drum-Major and Captain of the Provost Guard. He was present at the battle of York Town, and shortly after received an honourable discharge. He once more returned to his former residence in Rhode-Island, and continued to live for a number of successive years in this town, where he ever preserved that high sense of honour so characteristick of the soldier. He was a beneficiary under the Revolutionary Pension Law, and the just reward of his meritorious services, mitigated the evils of poverty and misfortune.

Mr. John GORTON, whose death is announced on our first page, was a descendant of the famous Samuel GORTON, one of the first settlers of Warwick. He was remarkable for the purity of his morals, and sustained through his long life an unblemished reputation. He was the teacher of an approved school for 51 winters in succession! His funeral was numerously attended, four-fifths of the persons present either being or having been his pupils.

She sustained, with Christian fortitude, a painful and protracted illness, during which she gave ample evidence of her firm faith in the Christian Religion, and of a well-grounded hope in its promises. Her husband has lost an affectionate and faithful companion and friend - her brothers, a kind sister - the Church to which she belonged an exemplary member - and her friends and neighbours, an object of sincere respect and affection.
